The third "Dune" movie has an official title

Before he moves on to fulfilling a dream of directing a James Bond movie, Denis Villenueve has to finish out his "Dune" trilogy. Many had been speculating that the film would be called "Dune Messiah," on account of the fact the film purportedly is built heavily upon that book by Frank Herbert in his "Dune" series. Well, the film has an official title now...

and it turns out it's just "Dune: Part Three."

So, in the end, Villenueve, plus the folks at Legendary and Warner Bros., opted to keep it simple. The trilogy will go with the to-the-point titles of "Dune," "Dune: Part Two," and "Dune: Part Three." Would it have been better if the movie had been called "Dune Messiah?" Yeah, probably, but you can't really argue with "Dune: Part Three." It's to the point, and there shall be no confusion.

In terms of notable news related to the movie beyond the title, it was also announced that there will be scenes for the film captured with IMAX cameras. Villenueve is stepping into Christopher Nolan's turf there, though unlike Nolan and his ambitious adaptation of "The Odyssey," there will only be select scenes shot with IMAX cameras. Nolan is solely shooting "The Odyssey" with IMAX cameras, because you get to do that when you're Christopher Nolan.

For now, you can remove "Untitled Dune Sequel" from your movie release calendar and replace it with "Dune: Part Three."
