Throwback to When Shaquille O’Neal Gifted His Son a Lamborghini and Jeep on the Same Day

It sounds like a dream to get a Lamborghini and a Jeep for your 16th birthday. But there was a big catch for Shareef, Shaquille O’Neal’s son, when he got the keys. Shaq’s unique style of parenting was on full display.

For Shareef’s 16th birthday in 2016, Shaq threw a massive, full-blown party with over 400 guests and a live performance from Post Malone himself. On top of that lavish party, Shaq got his son a pair of luxury wheels: a brand new Lamborghini and a Jeep.

Back then, Shaq revealed that his son would not get the keys unless he got straight A’s in his tests.

“It’s called incentives. You do good … Put it this way, I bought them, they’re his regardless. But you get all A’s, Lambo’s yours … you can have it whenever you want it. It’s at my house in the garage. Let’s not get it twisted,” said Shaq in his conversation on “The Big podcast with Shaq.”

“I bought them for him, but I didn’t give it to him that day. But they’re his. You get all A’s, son, the lamborghini’s yours whenever you want it,” Shaq added.

Shareef did get a Jeep for getting good grades and reaching his basketball goals, but the Lamborghini stayed locked up in the garage.

He never got the straight A’s, but his mom, Shaunie Henderson, stepped in and got him a Porsche Cayenne when he got his driver’s license.

Was that the only example? Well, there was a time when Shaqir just walked inside Effortless Motors to buy himself a Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 580 worth around 130,000.

The dealership owner, Daniel Ubario, was a bit concerned about that, as he thought that Shaq might not be aware of this purchase, but Shaqir confidently told him to just “put the purchase on his dad’s tab.”

But Shaq’s real parenting rules might surprise you. Spoiling his kids is only one part of the story.

Inside Shaquille O’Neal’s Unconventional Parenting Playbook

He has a clear double standard between his sons and daughters when it comes to running his house, and he doesn’t care at all.

But his daughters are on the softer side of that line. O’Neal made his preference crystal clear when he said, “I like my girls a little bit better.”

He stood by it with conviction: “Because as a man you have to protect, provide, and love your woman. I trust them more because they’re more sensitive, they’re more caring, and they’re thinkers.”

But his sons have a strict deadline. Shaq tells them straight up, “When y’all get 18, you all got to go. Girls can stay as long as they want.”

Shaq has six kids; three girls (Taahirah, Amirah, and Me’arah) and three boys (Myles, Shareef, and Shaqir).
