Tina Fey and Will Forte are reuniting on-screen after their Saturday Night Live days to play husband and wife, Jack and Kate, in Netflix's The Four Seasons. When asked about their chemistry back then, Fey jokes to TVLine that they had "a microwaved sexual chemistry."
"I think we’re just at ease with each other because we’ve known each other a long time," Fey, who is also a co-creator, explained, "and that’s what people who are married a long time are like. It’s not the beginning of the book. It’s the middle of the book."
Six old friends head for a relaxing weekend away only to learn that one couple in the group is about to split up. The three couples, Kate and Jack, Nick (Steve Carell) and Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and Danny (Colman Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani), are completely upended by the news. Over the course of a year, we follow the friends on four vacations, and watch how this shake-up affects everyone’s dynamic — sending old issues and new bubbling to the surface.
The rest of the cast includes Steve Carell, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, and Marco Calvani.
Co-creator and executive producer Lang Fisher expresses that the two work so well together because "they’re so comfortable with each other," and "both really trust each other."
"Jack is such a little sweetheart, but he’s also needy," co-creator and executive producer Tracey Wigfield added. Meanwhile, Kate "can take care of herself, and she takes care of everybody else around her, and she’s a little sharper than he is. And I think that kind of difference between them felt like a fun dynamic, and a real marriage to us."
The series, which is based on the 1981 movie of the same title, is a "hilarious and heartfelt love letter to long marriages and old friendships." All episodes are now streaming.
