It feels as though a lot of us have grown up with Lindsay Lohan. But in truth, she has grown up with Hollywood. All the success, troubles, and toils she’s faced have been put out right there in the glaring tabloids, and amazingly, Lindsay has become more resilient because of it. In fact, she has surmounted multiple obstacles to become the sought-after, talented actress that she is today.
Okay – we definitely loved Freaky Friday – and now Freakier Friday, especially because of Lindsay (and Jamie Lee). Whether you know Lindsay Lohan from these zany Disney movies or are familiar with her impressive body of work, we’ve highlighted a few movies of hers. From fun family comedies to much edgier roles, we compiled a list of Lohan’s top five performances.
This is probably Lindsay’s best-known role. She stars as Cady, a new transplant who lived a somewhat bohemian, but cultured life in Africa. Cady and her family move to the suburbs, and she is quickly introduced to (ugh) high school culture.
In a weird way, this movie harkens back to Heathers, the late 80s Winona Ryder vehicle. However, it’s not quite as dark. In Mean Girls, Lohan’s Cady learns much about cliques, high school crushes – and herself. Great performances, particularly by Lohan and Rachel McAdams.
Lindsay Lohan’s performance in Georgia Rule is outstanding. She captures perfectly the balance of a troubled teen, whose rebelliousness is used to cover up past trauma. Aptly acted and thoughtfully written, Lohan is flanked by marvelous performances by both Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda.
The movie examines family secrets and a tense mother-daughter relationship between Lilly and Rachel, played by Huffman and Lohan, respectively. Though it did not perform well at the box office, it’s positively a must-watch.
Okay, we’ll begin right at the starting line (see what we did there?) and say that this is probably not the most thought-provoking film ever made. But it sure is fun! Fans of racing movies won’t be disappointed with some cameos of Dale Jarrett and Jeff Gordon, among others
Lindsay stars as Maggie Peyton, who’s from a racing family. She ends up picking out an old dusty 1963 Volkswagen bug – named Herbie. Maggie comes to find out that Herbie has a mind of his own, thus changing the course of her future. This comedic adventure flick shows that Lindsay can portray a wide range of roles.
In this often overlooked movie, an all-star cast gives way to an original premise. Set back in the day when live radio programs were popular, the story follows singing cowboys Dusty and Lefty, played by Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly.
Meryl Streep plays Yolanda Johnson, another performer who tries to get her daughter, Lola (adroitly portrayed by Lohan), to sing and join them on the program. Amazing performances by all involved, and sadly, the last movie of the late, great director Robert Altman.
Finally, we get to one of Lindsay’s earlier movies. This is an entertaining movie where she plays identical twins, Hallie and Annie. The two girls, separated at birth, meet unexpectedly at camp. They discover who they are and try to bring their parents together. Totes Disney!
Their father Nick, played by Dennis Quaid, and their mother Elizabeth, played by the late Natasha Richardson, are eventually brought together – where (gasp!) even more craziness ensues. Lindsay was just a preteen while filming much of this, and The Parent Trap propelled her on a very fast pathway to success.
No matter what you might think of her, Lindsay Lohan is a talented actress. Starting in comedy at a young age and progressing to drama, she has shown that she can easily adapt to the full spectrum of what a role requires.
As a child and teen actress, Lindsay Lohan was very much in demand. She went from a fresh, freckled-faced girl to a capable young adult who could act in most any capacity that moviemakers threw at her.
Because she grew up in the spotlight, everything she did was scrutinized under a microscope. Lohan got out of the public eye for a while, moving out of the country. Now she is back – and stronger than ever. We can’t wait to see what she’ll do next.
