1.) Absolute Evil #1 (DC Comics)

DC launches its first full-blown crossover in the Absolute Universe with Absolute Evil #1, penned by Al Ewing with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi. In this one-shot, longtime antagonists Ra’s al Ghul, Veronica Cale, Hector Hammond, Elenore Thawne, and a mysterious Joker set aside their rivalries to form an alliance — only for secrets and betrayals to threaten the balance from within.

As much as it’s a feast of villain team-ups, the issue also teases the debut of two new Absolute characters who will steer the direction of the line in the year ahead. If you’ve been following DC’s “All In” push and the darker reimaginations of classic characters, this is the event that aims to raise the stakes across the board.

2.) The Author Immortal #1 (Image Comics)

A fresh fantasy-drama enters the fray with The Author Immortal #1, from writer Frank J. Barbiere and artist Morgan Beem. According to the preview on Image Comics:

“Hector Ramirez is a failed writer who gets the opportunity of a lifetime: to help reboot the fantasy book series that defined his childhood. But when he discovers the original author has mysteriously vanished into his fictional world, Hector is pulled into a realm where stories are alive, and some are willing to kill to stay in control.”

Fans of metafictional fantasy (think Locke & Key, The Magicians) will likely find a lot to love — Barbiere and Beem set a tone of emotional stakes wrapped in a world that itself may push back.  

3.) Ultimate Wolverine #10 (Marvel Comics)

Marvel’s Ultimate Wolverine #10, penned by Chris Condon, raises the urgency in the mutant’s alternate-universe arc. The preview teases a showdown: Wolverine faces off against Omega Red, who has come to reclaim a weapon he considers rightfully his. Logan unveils a secret weapon of his own, and tensions escalate as the Eurasian Republic’s ambitions collide with the Opposition’s drive. Beyond the action, #10 is loaded with emotional weight. It digs deeper into Logan’s past and hints that nothing in this version of the mutant’s life is without consequence.
