Twilight Spin-Off Series is Heading to Netflix

Netflix has announced an all-new Twilight spin-off series.

Called Midnight Sun, the animated series is set during the events of Twilight and follows Edward Cullen.

It’s based on author Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun, the 2020 companion novel to her best-selling book series about vampires, Twilight. Did you know Sofia Coppola almost directed a Twilight film, by the way?

“A retelling of the first entry in the Twilight story,” says Netflix, “Midnight Sun unfolds entirely from the perspective of Edward Cullen, the captivating, and yes, extremely sparkly vampire who catches a young Bella Swan’s attention.”

Meyer is on board as executive producer, but Edward Cullen actor Robert Pattinson likely won’t return to voice his character seeing as Netflix has made no mention of him. Pattinson’s star has risen considerably since his breakout role in the first Twilight in 2008, having starred in Tenet, The Lighthouse, The Lost City of Z, and most notably, his ongoing role in The Batman.

The Twilight series is now a multi-billion film franchise, with five series entries overall. The rest are New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn Part 1, and Breaking Dawn Part 2. With Midnight Sun, Netflix is looking to capture some of that magic.
