Watch first trailer for Netflix's 'Stowaway' starring Anna Kendrick and Daniel Dae Kim

It's all about survival in Netflix's first trailer for Stowaway

The sci-fi drama, set to hit the streamer April 22, revolves around a risky two-year mission to Mars.

In the trailer, the stowaway in question, Michael (Shamier Anderson) wakes up to find that he had been asleep for 12 hours and is now in outer space. He reacts the way anybody would: completely freaking out. Medical researcher Zoe Levenson (Anna Kendrick) comes rushing in to try and calm him down, then calls for the spaceship's commander, Marina Barnett (Toni Collette). Michael is a launch support engineer who is now unintentionally part of the mission to make Mars "a second home."

"Two years is a long time to be away," Daniel Dae Kim's biologist character says, "but this is the opportunity of a lifetime." But a life-threatening problem brought on by Michael's presence is soon revealed: the life support machine becomes permanently damaged, which means there is only enough oxygen to sustain three people. Will they suffocate before landing on Mars?

"It's ultimately about community, survival, and sacrifice," Collette told Entertainment Weekly for a first-look article published earlier this week. "Who can't relate to that at the moment?"

Stowaway was created by Joe Penna, who also co-wrote with Ryan Morrison.
