Watch the official trailer for 'My Oxford Year' starring Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest

Netflix has finally dropped the trailer for Iain Morris' My Oxford Year starring Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest. The film is based on the novel by Julia Whelan, with the screenplay by Melissa Osborne and Allison Burnett, who wrote the story.

When Anna (Sofia Carson), an ambitious young American woman, sets out for Oxford University to fulfill a childhood dream, she has her life completely on track until she meets a charming and clever local (Corey Mylchreest) who profoundly alters both of their lives.

"Comedy is his [Iain Morris] language, so his vision of this film beautifully created a timeless, heartbreaking, sweeping romance, grounded in laughter. Within one scene you may fall madly in love, you may cry, but he will always make sure the joy of laughter is present," Carson, who is also an executive producer, told Tudum

The rest of the cast includes Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack, Harry Trevaldwyn, Esmé Kingdom, Nikhil Parmar, Poppy Gilbert, Romina Cocca, Yadier Fernández, Nia Anisah, and Hugh Coles.

"It was an honor and joy to dive into Anna’s world of dreams, of love, of poetry. To study the great poets that walked the halls of Oxford, and who have since filled our lives with the magic of literature. In 1833, Alfred Tennyson wrote ‘It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.’ Two hundred years after Tennyson so beautifully uttered those words, they ring truer than ever — in the halls of Oxford, and within the heart of our film," the actress continued to share. "Our story is a film that in every frame reaffirms the belief that life is too short to not live it in love. To not live it in joy."

Additionally, Caroline Levy, Laura Char Carson, Christopher Simon, Maggie Monteith, and Pete Harris executive produce. Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Laura Quicksilver, and Isaac Klausner serve as producers, while George Berman is a co-producer.

"Getting to meet, work, spend time, talk, joke with the cast and crew … they are absolutely crucial to why I think the film is good," Mylchreest expressed. "You can expect some laughs, a lot of love, maybe some sadness, a couple of surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all of their amazing friends and family. Get ready for a lovely journey."

My Oxford Year premieres August 1 on Netflix.
