The hit Netflix series "Wednesday" has officially been renewed for a third season. Maybe the only thing that is slightly surprising is that Netflix didn't bother to wait until the second season hit the streaming service before doing so.
"Wednesday," for the "Living in a cave on Mars with their eyes shut and their fingers in their ears" crowd, is a reimagining of the world of the Addams Family. Produced by Tim Burton and carrying his sensibilities, the show focuses on the macabre daughter of the family in the role that shot Jenna Ortega to fame.
The show is, purportedly, the most-popular English-language program in the history of Netflix. And that was the first season! Imagine what the hype must be like for the "Wednesday" fans as they await the second season.
Netflix believes so much in "Wednesday" that they have separated the release of the second season into two parts. The first batch hits August 6, and then the second drops September 3. While Burton is an executive producer on the show, he is not the main creative force. The show was created, and is run, by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Those two also joined up with Burton to help him finally get "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" done, a film that also added/shoehorned Ortega into the mix (fun movie, though). Gough and Millar had a statement paired with the announcement of season three:
It’s been a dark delight to watch Wednesday cast her spell over audiences across the globe — one deadpan quip at a time. We’re beyond thrilled she’ll be returning to stalk the halls of Nevermore in Season 3. This time, she’ll unearth more of the school’s sinister secrets — and descend even deeper into the Addams family crypt. Or, as Wednesday would say: "Nothing brings a family together like a good exhumation."
Of course, while "Wednesday" was always going to get a third season, if season two isn't received as enthusiastically, Netflix may not be so swift to greenlight a fourth season.
