When Does ‘Boston Blue’ Season 2 Start Filming?

Boston Blue Season 2 is premiering this fall on CBS, so filming has to start soon. Donnie Wahlberg has spent June performing in live concerts with New Kids on the Block in Las Vegas, but there’s about to be a break in that tour before it resumes in October. That sounds like a perfect window to start filming the second season of the Blue Bloods spinoff.

Here’s what we know about Season 2 production.

When does Boston Blue Season 2 start filming?

As of the time publication, production has not begun on Boston Blue Season 2. There are production listings online stating that filming starts in early July. TV Insider has reached out to CBS for comment.

New Kids on the Block currently has a Las Vegas residency, with concert dates set from June 19 to July 4 and then October 2 to October 17. Boston Blue Season 2 will likely start filming after the Fourth of July holiday.

When does Boston Blue Season 2 come out?

CBS hasn’t announced its fall 2026 premiere schedule yet, but NBC announced its 2026 premiere schedule on June 24, so the other network announcements can’t be too far away. Boston Blue will continue in its previous time slot this fall: Fridays at 10/9c, the spot previously held by its predecessor, Blue Bloods.

Where is Boston Blue filmed?

Due to budget constraints, Boston Blue films primarily in Toronto, Canada, despite being set in Boston. Some scenes are filmed in Wahlberg’s home city, however. The actor even offered to take a big pay cut in order to move production to Boston, but it didn’t work out.

“When I got offered the job, I’m like, ‘This is a dream come true.’ I thought, I’ll do a spinoff in L.A. or Vegas or Texas, somewhere hot,” Wahlberg told Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. “And they were like, ‘How about Boston?’ I was like, ‘Ahhhh.’ They hooked me. And I was like, ‘Alright, let’s do it in Boston.’”

“And they were like, ‘But we can’t afford to shoot it in Boston; we’re gonna shoot it in Toronto,'” he continued. “I was like, ‘No, no.’ So, I said, ‘Listen, I’ll give back 50% of my paycheck if we can go to Boston.’ I did. And they said, ‘You can give back 100% and so can the rest of the cast; we cannot film this show in Boston.’ It’s so expensive. For the most part, we shoot in Toronto.”
