'Wicked' special receives November 6 premiere date on NBC

The premiere date for the highly anticipated Wicked special has finally been announced! The one-time-only two-hour event will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will air on November 6 at 8 PM ET/PT on NBC and be available to stream the next day on Peacock.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have already been confirmed, but the leading duo will also be joined by some of their co-stars and other surprise guests. They will be performing music from the first film, which came out in November of last year, and most likely a few songs from Wicked: For Good, set to be released on November 21.

Raj Kapoor and Ben Winston executive produce with Fulwell Entertainment serving as the production company.

Wicked grossed over $750 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the biggest Broadway musical adaptation of all time. Additionally, it was Universal's biggest PVOD title of all time and Peacock's biggest Pay 1 streaming launch ever. The movie earned a total of 10 Academy Award nominations, leading to two wins.

The rest of the cast includes Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum.

Fans might be surprised to learn that both parts of Wicked were filmed at the same time. "A lot of movie two was shot before some of the stuff in movie one. We had big boards with what timeline we’d be in, and they had notes all over their script so we could all be in sync of where we’re at," he shared with Vanity Fair. "Things that you may have noticed in movie one, you’ll see why those things are there. It is designed to be seen big and felt deeply."

The conclusion will also include two new songs, Chu revealed: "They're great additions to this movie. They were necessary in this movie to help tell the story."
