In terms of billion-dollar movies, "Lilo & Stitch" is there. "Avatar: Fire & Ash" is almost guaranteed to do it. "Jurassic World Rebirth" seems like it will fall just short. One film to also keep an eye on in terms of cracking the $1 billion box office threshold? "Zootopia 2," which now has a trailer:
"Zootopia" is essentially a buddy cop movie, but the team is a sly, conniving fox and a chipper rabbit. The film was a big success for Disney in 2016, making $1.025 billion. For an original movie that was remarkable, even in 2016. Now, "Zootopia" is I.P., and "Zootopia 2" has sequel hype behind it to drive exictement. That's especially true given that it's been almost a decade.
As you can see, Nick and Judy are still figuring things out, but they also now have to deal with a snake (voiced by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan!) creating chaos in Zootopia.
In terms of quality, "Zootopia 2" doesn't have to lay as much track as the first film, but it also has to craft a compelling story that is new and fresh and not merely a retread. However, in terms of box-office success, obviously quality only means so much. Just look at "A Minecraft Movie" for proof of that. Will "Zootopia 2" be a huge hit? Has too much time passed? Will Ke Huy Quan finally be in a good movie post-Oscar win? We mean, "Love Hurts" was watchable, but not exactly a winner.
We'll find all these things out starting November 26, when "Zootopia 2" hits theaters. That is the day before Thanksgiving, so Disney is betting big on the holiday weekend for this one.
