ESPN already has a lot of channels on cable and streaming services. You’ve got ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews and ESPNU across most platforms, plus the SEC Network. So, what is ESPN Plus, and do you really need it?

ESPN Plus is an app that provides content like studio shows and live events. Notably, you won’t have access to the regular ESPN channels and their content. For instance, if ESPN is airing an NFL game, you can’t tune into ESPN Plus to watch. Rather, ESPN Plus offers a complement to the traditional channels. It’s ideal for sports fans who want to get some extra action beyond the typical ESPN coverage.

How much does ESPN Plus cost?

There are a few ways to get ESPN Plus, each with their own price. Some options even give you content from other apps and streaming services. Here are the ways to get ESPN Plus, from cheapest to most expensive:

  • Annual plan: If you pay for ESPN Plus independently on an annual plan, the cost is $109.99. This comes out to around $9.17 per month.
  • Monthly plan: Paying per month, ESPN Plus is $10.99 per month.
  • Disney Bundle (with ads): You can get Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus for $14.99 per month. All apps will use the same login for convenience, but they do have ad breaks.
  • Disney Bundle (without ads): This bundle also includes Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus. The bundle costs $24.99 per month and you won’t have to watch ads, except on ESPN content.

For just a few dollars more, you’ll get two extra apps, which often makes the bundle worth it. Whether you pay for the standalone app or you get the bundle, you aren’t required to sign a contract and can cancel at any time.

What content will I get with ESPN Plus?

What does ESPN Plus include? As mentioned above, you won’t get access to ESPN or other ESPN channels. However, you will get thousands of shows, movies and select live games. This includes exclusive live events, series you can’t find on ESPN, original studio shows and on-demand content. The extensive on-demand library has everything from the 30 for 30 series library to ESPN films. You can even catch some game replays on ESPN Plus.

Another draw to ESPN Plus is the availability of UFC pay-per-view events. These are not included in the cost of your monthly subscription, however. PPV events must be purchased in advance for a separate fee.

Live sports on ESPN Plus

When it comes to watching live action, what do you get with ESPN Plus? You won’t find a lot of professional league games, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find something to watch every night. Live sports on the app feature:

  • College summer league baseball games
  • College basketball tournaments
  • Cricket
  • Futbol Americas games
  • NCAA football games
  • MLB games
  • Rugby games
  • Golf tournaments

Originals on ESPN Plus

Learning what's on ESPN Plus aside from sports may be enough to tip you into subscribing. The app has a lot of programs hosted by athletic greats, including Peyton Manning and Abby Wambach. They also have inspiring docu-series content and college football playoff content. Original shows that are only on ESPN Plus include: More Than an AthletePeyton’s PlacesMan in the Arena and Why Not Us.

Exclusives on ESPN Plus

Exclusive content on ESPN includes a mix of live events and studio shows. College football playoffs and boxing are among the most popular exclusive live events, especially UFC PPV matches and fight nights. ESPN Plus original shows are also exclusive to the app.

UFC on ESPN Plus

Aside from the original content that can’t be streamed anywhere else, ESPN Plus also has the exclusive rights to a lot of UFC content. This includes PPV matches not available elsewhere, and original shows that center UFC, such as UFC Destined and UFC Fight Island: Declassified. The on-demand library available from ESPN Plus also has some UFC content, like some episodes of the 30 for 30 series and the shows Detail from the Mind of Daniel Cormier and UFC Destined.

ESPN Plus subscription plans

There are several subscription plans available for ESPN Plus, despite it being a single app. Price point variations reflect whether the app is included in a bundle and if there are ads. If you just want ESPN Plus, the most affordable way to access the app is to purchase an annual plan.

The monthly plan costs $10.99 per month and only includes access to the ESPN Plus app. With the basic monthly plan, you’ll get all ESPN live content plus access to the on-demand library. You can also subscribe to the package at a discount with an annual subscription for $99.99 per year.

Next, you can sign up for the Disney Bundle which includes ESPN Plus, Disney Plus, and Hulu. The basic package costs $14.99 per month for Disney  Plus (With Ads), Hulu (With Ads) and ESPN Plus (With Ads). The premium bundle costs $24.99 per month and includes Disney Plus (No Ads), Hulu (No Ads) and ESPN Plus (With Ads).

Finally, there are options for watching PPV events with ESPN Plus. If you already have an ESPN Plus subscription, you can purchase individual live UFC PPV events for $79.99 per event. If you are a new or monthly ESPN Plus subscriber, you can purchase the PPV package for $134.98, which includes an ESPN Plus subscription and access to the next PPV event.

Is ESPN Plus’s channel list worth it?

ESPN doesn’t have a channel list, but it does have a content library. Plus, they often have multiple games airing at once to choose from. If you love sports docuseries and studio shows, you’ll appreciate the app as a complement to your ESPN channels. You’ll also need it to purchase UFC PPV fight nights, so it’s a must-have if you plan on buying any matches in the future.

It’s easy to view ESPN Plus, which may be an added draw. You can watch from a mobile device or download the app to a smart TV or streaming device. ESPN Plus is compatible with the following devices:
