ESPN Plus free trial: What you need to know in 2024
Many streaming services offer a free trial so customers can test out the streamer before fully diving in. It’s common to see seven-day trials that give customers the luxury of watching the service’s content to really get to know them. Unfortunately for prospective ESPN Plus customers, the streaming service doesn’t currently offer a free trial.
Though there’s no ESPN Plus free trial, that doesn’t mean you can’t try out what the service has to offer for a month for the low monthly cost of $10.99. Though you can’t watch ESPN Plus for free, you can try it out for just one month. A month of ESPN Plus is $10.99, which is a small price to pay to try out the streamer’s vast library of content. With ESPN Plus, you’ll get a lot of what’s on the ESPN network but so much more. ESPN Plus offers tons of live events in a number of sports — including NFL games, NBA matchups, Wimbledon championships, golf tournaments and more. In addition, viewers can watch ESPN Plus originals including documentaries and studio shows. ESPN Plus also offers the 30 for 30 library of documentaries that tell some of sports’ biggest stories from over the years. Past features include Ricky Williams, Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson.
You can access all this and more with ESPN Plus — there’s no long-term commitment with signing up for just a month. It’s not a free trial, but if you’re not satisfied with the content, you can easily cancel, thanks to ESPN Plus’ plan that doesn’t involve any contracts.
How does ESPN Plus’s free trial compare to others?
Unlike streaming services like Hulu, Apple TV Plus, or Starz, ESPN Plus doesn’t offer a free trial, which puts it at a disadvantage. Some streamers offer free trials of seven days, whereas others offer a trial of up to 30 days, which is a huge bonus when considering whether or not you want to actually subscribe to a service.
Prime Video and Hulu both offer 30-day free trials, which put them at the top of the food chain, while others like Showtime, Starz, and Apple TV Plus offer seven-day trials. With ESPN Plus offering no trial, it could be difficult to sway people’s opinions when it comes time to figure out how to lay out their streaming service portfolio.
How to sign up for ESPN Plus
If you want to go ahead and sign up for an account now, even without a free trial — because you’re a sports fan and know it’s worth it! — it’s easy to do.
- Go to Plus.ESPN.com
- You can opt to sign up for the Hulu bundle (which includes Hulu and Disney Plus) or only ESPN Plus. For just ESPN Plus, click on Subscribe to ESPN Plus only.
- Enter your email address and click Continue.
- Choose a password.
- Enter your payment information. You can choose to subscribe for a monthly plan or for a year at a time. It’s cheaper to subscribe for a year upfront.
How to subscribe to ESPN Plus
ESPN Plus offers a monthly plan and a yearly plan. If you sign up to pay monthly, it’s $10.99 each month. However, if you pay for a year up front, it’s $109.99 for the whole year.
You can also get ESPN Plus through Hulu with the Disney Plus bundle. This gets you Hulu, Disney Plus and ESPN Plus all in one go. There are two ways to go about this — the on-demand Hulu bundle or the Hulu + Live TV bundle. If you subscribe to Hulu + Live TV, ESPN Plus and Disney Plus are already included in the price of $76.99 per month (price with ads, or $89.99 per month with no ads). The on-demand Hulu bundle is $14.99 for all three streaming services.
How to cancel ESPN Plus
If you decide ESPN Plus isn’t for you, it’s easy enough to cancel. ESPN Plus doesn’t lock you into any contracts; however, if you cancel before the end of your term (whether it’s a month or year), you will not get a refund for the remaining time left on the term. For example, if you subscribe for a year and cancel after six months, you won’t get a refund for the remaining six months.
To cancel, log into your ESPN Plus account. Go to Manage and click on Cancel Subscription. You can also call ESPN Plus customer service and speak to an agent if you’d like further assistance.
Is ESPN Plus’s free trial worth it?
No matter what streaming service is up for debate, you never have anything to lose by using a free trial. It’s a great way to test out a streaming service to see what it offers. With any of them, you want to be sure you cancel before the trial ends if you don’t want to continue service so you’re not automatically charged for the subscription. You’ll always have to input your payment information when you sign up for a trial so that you can be charged at the end of the trial, so it’s important to take note of when the trial ends.
