Alysa Liu Reveals the Surprising Reason She Doesn’t Want to Rule Fortnite

After an Olympic gold medal, Alysa Liu knows exactly what she wants. In a recent interview with USA Today, the “halo hair” athlete was given two choices. And her answer hinted that Fortnite better keep things challenging.

Liu was asked whether she’ll win another medal or be the best Fortnite player in the world.

“I mean, neither? Is that an option?” Liu said, laughing. “Yeah, cause that’s no fun. If you’re the best Fortnite player, you just win all the games. That’s kind of boring.”

Well, as fans may already know, Liu is one of the most avid gamers in the world. That’s why it’s no surprise that she would like what athletes like Naomi Osaka and Chloe Kim already have: a Fortnite skin. “I would love Fortnite to do a skin on me. I would buy it”, she said.

And there’s no reason why she shouldn’t have one. This 20-year-old helped Team USA win gold in a group event with her Blade Angels teammate Amber Glenn on February 8. Right after, on February 19, she won individual gold in the free skating event with a near-perfect skate.

While a Fortnite skin remains a possibility, Liu has her sights set on a potential Olympic return.

Alysa Liu’s Plan for the Future

Sure, her answer was “neither” about another gold medal. But what Liu said at the Closing Ceremony of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics highlighted that she may return for another gold in the next Olympics.

“Yeah, I mean, I have no plans to leave, yet. I can’t imagine not skating next year”, she said. While not a direct confirmation, her words keep the door open for her return.

Moreover, given her prodigious run, it’s quite natural that she comes back. At 13, Liu became the youngest U.S. women’s national champion in history, breaking Tara Lipinski’s record. Next, she won two senior national titles, calling it quits at 16, after the 2022 Beijing Games.

And now that she has returned to the sport, Liu played by her own terms in Milan. Rather than taking it like a job, her goal was to “hype people, give them an experience… Whether it’s negative or positive.”
