Sometimes, a mistake can cost the heaviest. And something similar happened to Amber Glenn.
Glenn, 26, delivered a standout performance in Milan-Cortina 2026, helping and being crucial to Team USA’s Olympic gold in Milan. But things took a damaging turn soon after.
It was during the women’s short program event that she fumbled. And the icon didn’t clarify what went wrong immediately.
However, in a recent interview with Mirror US, Glenn talked candidly about it, opening up about what led to that career-concerning mistake.
“I do that stupid jump in training so easy. Like, it’s not something that’s hard. It’s not like I went into it being, like, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God,” she said. “I just really lost my balance for a second. And things happen. We’re human.”
On February 17, Glenn started strong with a triple axel. But later on, she mistimed the take-off on her triple loop and only finished two rotations. This invalid attempt earned zero scores and pushed her to 13th.
The “one major mistake,” Glenn said, was one of those “up-down moments” of her “skating career,” which ended her wish for a solo Olympic medal. However, she did not waste time coming back stronger.
Glenn’s fumbled performance attracted much online criticism that not only left her disheartened but also left her fans disheartened. However, she hit the ice again on February 19 and recorded a season-best 147.52 points.
“Getting to go out, and rather than just hope for perfection, I was able to enjoy the moment,” she said. “It was something that will be with me forever. And I’m so grateful for that.”
Her total score of 214.91 landed her in 5th place overall. And what followed was an “overwhelming” amount of fan support. Which Glenn shared on her Instagram stories.
“I typically try to see/respond to edits, fanart, videos, etc., that I’m tagged in, but the amount is so insane rn; it’s overwhelming in the BEST way!! “Thank you all so, so much for the love!” she posted.
Despite the ups and downs and mistakes, this Olympic gold medalist took command on the ice in the best way possible.
