Alysa Liu’s legacy at the Olympics has been firmly established, and nothing can undo it. She has become an icon both in the United States and among Asians after representing them at the 2026 Winter Olympics last February, where she won two gold medals.
The 20-year-old is expanding her reach. She is no longer just a figure skater, but also a pop culture icon. She was first tapped as a brand ambassador by leading sports apparel company Nike. She then appeared at the iHeartRadio show to present a top award to Taylor Swift.
Liu is not done making her mark in other fields. She is now also an “actress” after appearing in a music video by one of today’s rising stars.
Icelandic singer Laufey released the music video for her song “Madwoman,” featuring some of the most prominent Western-Asian personalities today. Liu was among them.
Other Wasian personalities featured in Laufey’s video include “Heated Rivalry” actor Hudson Williams, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” star Lola Tung, and Katseye member Megan Skiendiel.
Liu is ethnically Chinese, while Hudson is half Korean. Tung is of Chinese and Swedish descent, and Skiendiel identifies as Chinese-American and Cantonese.
The Olympian celebrated her new project by releasing some behind-the-scene photos and highlighted Wasian representation in the music video.
"Shoutout Wasiaaa," part of her caption reads.
Fans came to express their admiration for Liu.
"an icon, a legend, an actor, a gold medalist ⭐️ what can’t you do?!" a top user commented.
"So so good! Watched it 700 bazillion times!!!" Asian make-up artist wrote.
"Fr best day of my life," wrote another.
Other people highlighted how the video also featured Asian elements.
"Elite meetup with mahjong and bob," one user noticed.
In the MV itself, comments hailed Laufey for being inclusive and featuring diversity.
"Laufey collected all of the wasians like infinity stones," the top comment reads.
"The expression Alyssa makes when she silently says "the heck" after Hudson gives a wink means so much to me XD," said another.
"Laufey really summoned 5 fandoms with this," another commenter said.
Liu has grown into one of the most followed celebrities since her February Winter Olympics stint. The TIME Magazine validated it just recently by naming her as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People of 2026.
The well-known magazine wrote about Liu:
"How can someone be so casual about being the best in the world? That’s for Alysa Liu to know and the rest of us to witness in a screaming frenzy. She’s flipped her ponytail after finishing a historic program that won her an Olympic gold medal for figure skating. She’s shrugged off inane questions while sending a song to the top of the charts. She’s somehow made her triumphs feel unsentimental to herself but meaningful to everyone else."
