Charles Leclerc has pointed to one area where he still isn’t ‘on the same level’ as Lewis Hamilton, even though the Ferrari teammate head-to-head is falling entirely in his favour during the 2025 F1 season.

Ferrari’s pairing of Leclerc and Hamilton was seen as a dream team when it was announced for the 2025 campaign, with plenty of anticipation about how the two would mesh on track.

Leclerc had actually backed Ferrari’s move to bring in Hamilton after learning of their interest. He saw it as an opportunity to measure himself against one of the sport’s most decorated drivers.

While he’s been ahead in most aspects so far, Leclerc believes there is still one key area where he falls short compared to his teammate.

Hamilton’s work behind the scenes has long been praised by those who have worked with him. His technical feedback and ability to build strong relationships within teams are often cited as reasons for his sustained success.

Leclerc knows that comparing himself to a seven-time champion isn’t simple. The experience gap is significant, with Hamilton having been part of multiple title-winning teams throughout his career.

Charles Leclerc says winning F1 titles is the only way to match Lewis Hamilton’s level

Leclerc was taking part in a social media video for Shell Motorsport when he made the comment, as he and Hamilton took turns reading out supportive messages from fans.

Hamilton smiled after hearing one note that read, “I’m proud of you two and everything you do. You both are an inspiration to many of us. Thank you.”

The 28-year-old responded, “We’ll try to continue to be, but I still need to win some titles before being on the same level as LH.”

Even with his early edge in results this season, Leclerc has always shown plenty of respect for what Hamilton has achieved in his career.

And throughout their time together so far at Ferrari, he’s continued to speak highly of what the seven-time champion brings both on and off the track.

The Monegasque was already well aware of Hamilton’s reputation long before they became teammates and has said it hasn’t been surprising to see that quality up close.

Lazenby claims Charles Leclerc is not happy with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari

Simon Lazenby, speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast in May 2025, said: “Ferrari have done a great job by keeping them both relatively happy because Charles is not a happy camper at Maranello at all.”

Lazenby added that it was understandable for Ferrari to shift their focus towards Hamilton given his track record and the wealth of experience he brings.
