Christian Horner pinpoints Ferrari’s ‘which horse to back’ dilemma over Lewis Hamilton’s arrival
Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images

As Lewis Hamilton ‘s move to Ferrari would soon become a reality, people have been wondering how the intra-team dynamics would work with Charles Leclerc . The Monegasque has been the prodigy of the Scuderia and tensions could rise between the pair. Subsequently, Red Bull supremo Christian Horner claimed that the Italian giant would soon have to bear a massive dilemma with Hamilton’s welcome.

Charles Leclerc joined Ferrari in 2019 after proving his worth to the team in his stint at Alfa Romeo(now Sauber) in 2018. He has since partnered with two teammates and has successfully led an advantageous head-to-head. On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton is statistically the greatest driver of the sport and has seven world championships.

The Briton would soon partner Leclerc at Ferrari next year and the details of his welcome at Maranello are much awaited. However, the future scarlet duo is often tipped to trip over each other by experts. This would be down to both drivers wanting No.1 status. This led Christian Horner to dawn a sense of urgency on Ferrari regarding how the team would soon face a dilemma of which driver to support and give the priority status.

A team like Ferrari, for example, next year, are going to have two drivers that are going to be taking points off each other. And which horse do you back? You have to back both of them, but that sometimes becomes divisive within a team. So different teams have different approaches to how they go about it.

Christian Horner said (via TalkSport).

Despite the concerns, Ferrari seems confident in Leclerc’s abilities. The team has backed the 27-year-old to win his maiden title soon even in the presence of Hamilton as his teammate. So, the situation looks weary for the Hamilton-Ferrari era, before even it has started.

Christian Horner revealed why Lewis Hamilton moved to Ferrari

On the other hand, leaving behind a 12-year-long alliance is not easy for any driver. With 246 starts under his belt with Mercedes, Hamilton would now be repping to wear the elusive red suit. Though this breakup was not easy, Horner conspired about the 39-year-old’s relation with the German giant.

The 51-year-old claimed that Hamilton’s relationship with Mercedes had grown stale since their 2021 title challenge. Moreover, the Briton only managed to claim two wins in a three-year spell filled with struggles.

It’s a great story for Formula One and it could be just the revitalisation Lewis has been looking for. He’s looked very flat the last three years and perhaps that relationship became a little stale.

Christian Horner said (via TalkSport)

On the other hand, Hamilton is slated to get behind the wheel of a Ferrari for the first time next month. He would drive the SF-23 at Fiorano towards the later end of January before the massive F1 livery reveal show.

New report suggests Christian Wilkins release related to 'incident' with teammate

There may be more to Christian Wilkins’ recent surprise release from the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL reporter Josina Anderson reported Saturday that "some sources believe an incident involving a teammate may have factored in-part into the Raiders' fatigue and release" of Wilkins. The nature of the incident is not clear. However, many believe the Raiders had a very good reason to move on from Wilkins considering the money they had invested in him. It also suggests the Raiders saw no alternative if they went straight to a release. Wilkins was dumped by the Raiders just one year into a four-year, $110 million deal. The Raiders suggested Wilkins failed to take rehab seriously as he tries to work his way back from a foot injury. Other teams do not appear to have the same concerns about Wilkins as the Raiders did, and he should find a new landing spot fairly easily. That is one of the reasons some suspect there is more to the Raiders’ decision than they are publicly saying.

Cleveland Guardians Slapped With Bad News Before Trade Deadline

The Cleveland Guardians are quite a mystery heading into the MLB trade deadline, as no one seems to know whether they will buy, sell or possibly even do nothing before July 31. The Guardians are hovering around .500, but they are still smack dab in the middle of the American League Wild Card race. That's in spite of losing 10 straight just before the All-Star break. Even with Cleveland remaining in contention, there are some who believe the Guardians might sell given their conservative nature, but talk show host Bruce Drennan has provided some rather bad news for the team in that regard: the players they might want to move don't have much value. “No top prospects for a big bat, and I don’t necessarily see us selling players, like Carlos Santana or Lane Thomas. What can you get in return?” Drennan said. Drennan has a point. Santana and Thomas are both impending free agents, and neither has been all that good this season. Santana owns a .665 OPS, and Thomas has been on and off the injured list while hitting just .160 on the year. Of course, the Guardians would surely be able to land a hefty return for players like Steven Kwan and Emmanuel Clase, but it does not seem like Cleveland is going to move either of those two stars. Perhaps the Guardians will surprise some people and go all in by adding pieces at the deadline, but that isn't exactly in their nature. We'll see what happens before the end of the months, but it stands to reason that Cleveland might just stand pat, as Drennan anticipates. Read More Cleveland Guardians Coverage

Blue Jays Announce Alejandro Kirk News After Leaving Tigers Game

The Toronto Blue Jays have sole possession of the AL's first seed, and it's partially because of catcher Alejandro Kirk's breakout campaign. The 26-year-old is slashing .304/.361/.413 with seven homers and 47 RBI over 88 games. Kirk's batting average ranked seventh in baseball entering the game and is 33 points above his career average. The 5-foot-8-inch, 245-pounder slashed .253/.319/.359 with one homer and five RBI over 103 games last season. He then signed a five-year, $58 million extension with Toronto this past March. Kirk left Saturday's bout with the Detroit Tigers in the fourth inning with an injury, via MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. "The Blue Jays’ All-Star catcher left Saturday’s game against the Tigers in the fourth after taking a foul tip off the mask in the inning prior," he reported. "The club is expected to share an update, but Kirk finished that inning before he was pinch-hit for. Kirk has been incredibly durable on top of his great numbers this season, but beyond him, the Blue Jays’ catching depth is thin." Toronto manager John Schneider said postgame that Alejandro Kirk is being evaluated for a concussion, via Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. The Blue Jays' only backup catcher is Tyler Heineman, who subbed in for Kirk on Saturday. Heineman entered Saturday slashing .330/.394/.495 with three homers and 16 RBI over 37 games. Toronto is now on a four-game winning streak and 6.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East after Saturday's 6-1 win. It is also 2.5 games ahead of the Houston Astros and 3.5 games ahead of the Tigers for the AL's top seed.

Lakers Consulted Luka Doncic About Trade for Big Man

The Los Angeles Lakers won big when they acquired five-time NBA All-Star Luka Doncic in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks in February. But they also lost Anthony Davis in the process, which left them without a center for the rest of the season. Shortly after landing Doncic, the Lakers reportedly consulted him about a trade deal involving Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams, whom Doncic had requested to play with, per ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst. More news: 3 Players Lakers Should Have Signed to BAE Instead of Marcus Smart The Hornets had accepted the Lakers’ offer that would give them Dalton Knecht, who was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, a 2030 pick swap and a 2031 first-round pick in exchange for Williams. However, the Lakers ultimately rescinded the trade deal after Williams reportedly failed his physical examination. Both Williams and his agent Jeff Schwartz do not believe William’s physical was the sole reason Los Angeles chose to cancel the trade. "I don't think it was solely because of my physical," Williams said to ESPN. "I felt like I could have contributed to them. But, obviously, they had second thoughts." Although Doncic and Williams had never played together, Doncic had selected the 7-foot center out of a list of potential trade targets for the Lakers. More news: Former Lakers Star Shaquille O’Neal on NBA All-Star — ‘I F---ing Hate’ Him Los Angeles was unable to acquire a dominant center after rescinding their deal with the Hornets. It ultimately came back to hurt them when they were eliminated in the first-round of the Western Conference playoffs for the second season in a row. Williams averaged 15.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 44 regular season games with Charlotte. He played against the Lakers shortly after the cancelled trade and put up 10 points, nine rebounds and two assists across 29 minutes to help the Hornets defeat the Lakers 100-97. He was later traded to the Phoenix Suns on the night of the 2025 NBA Draft. The Lakers never commented on the claims that their decision to rescind their offer for Williams was due to anything more than a failed physical. But regardless of the reason why Los Angeles opted against Williams, the Lakers have finally signed a center for the next two seasons. 7-footer Deandre Ayton agreed to a two-year, $16.6 million contract with the Lakers at the beginning of July.
