Daniel Ricciardo claims he does not want to repeat McLaren struggle with new RB chassis
Mikala Compton/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

Daniel Ricciardo sat on the sidelines in 2023 after two dismal seasons with McLaren. However, the Australian driver was called up by Red Bull to replace Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri (now RB). Unfortunately, the 34-year-old has failed to live up to expectations so far this season. Ricciardo recalled his struggles at Woking as the Faenza-based team brings a new chassis for the Honey Badger.

Ricciardo won the 2021 Italian GP for McLaren after a rough start to his tenure with the British team. The Australian driver recalled that the Woking-based team gave him a new chassis for the following round in Russia. However, things did not go well for Daniel Ricciardo in Sochi. Subsequently, the 34-year-old asked his team to return his old car.

After I won Monza in 2021 the McLaren he wanted to pick up that chassis, so I had a different one for Russia, where I had an anonymous weekend, after which I said, ‘Guys, I don't want this frame, give me back the other.' Daniel Ricciardo said as reported by FormulaPassion.it

The Honey Badger claimed that with the return of his old car, he was performing well once again. As such, Daniel Ricciardo admitted that he has been skeptical about different chassis as some have not worked well for him over the years. Ricciardo wanted to be sure regarding this skepticism with a new RB chassis.

Then, perhaps, the next race was Austin, and I went back to being competitive. So yes, there have been a few times when I have been skeptical about some frames that, for several reasons, have not worked well. I just want to be sure. Daniel Ricciardo stated

Daniel Ricciardo hopes for ‘peace of mind’ with new RB chassis

Ricciardo has been consistently outperformed by Yuki Tsunoda in 2024. Helmut Marko recently claimed that the Australian took a cautious approach during the Japanese GP start before his collision on Lap 1. Subsequently, the 34-year-old was having trouble in getting the most out of his car. As such, a new VCARB-01 chassis could do wonders for Daniel Ricciardo.

The Australian driver claimed that he was curious to try out a different chassis in the next round in China. Daniel Ricciardo reckoned that this would give him a peace of mind. As the 34-year-old would not doubt the car as a problem for his recent slump in performance.

I’m curious, because at least it will give me peace of mind and I will be able to say, ‘okay’, I took this doubt away.

Daniel Ricciardo said

Certainly, Daniel Ricciardo would hope to bounce back with the brand new chassis in Shanghai. The Australian driver needs to establish himself as the lead driver at RB if he wants to race for Red Bull next season. As such fans would be hoping to see Ricciardo get comfortable with his new car straightaway next race.
