Ex-F1 Driver Insists Max Verstappen Deserves to Win 2025 Championship 'More Than anybody else'

Max Verstappen has shockingly returned in the mix to fight for the driver’s title in the 2025 season following the sudden Red Bull resurgence. The Dutchman has managed to cut down a point deficit of over 100 points to just 36 points in a matter of a few races.

With four races to go this season, Verstappen definitely cannot be counted out of the championship battle. Now, ex-F1 driver Lucas di Grassi has picked his favorite among the potential championship winners.

McLaren had remained dominant in terms of pace, but Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri couldn’t quite keep up with their dominant winning pace. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen achieved a shocking turnaround in pace and won three races.

Moreover, two podium finishes in the other races after the summer break helped him cut down the point disparity to the championship leader to 36 points. Now, Lucas di Grassi shared his candid opinion on who could win the driver’s title and what it would mean for McLaren if they lost out on it.

The Italian insisted that if the Woking-based constructor lost the driver’s title, it would be one of the biggest surprises in the history of Formula 1. The team and its drivers were leading the title all throughout the season, and to lose it in the end would certainly not look good on them.

I’m not following F1 that much, but I’ve seen some of the races and some of the the fights. If the McLaren duo lose the drivers’ title, it would be probably one of the biggest surprises in the history of the sport.

Lucas di Grassi said, as reported by RacingNews365.

Further, Lucas di Grassi asserted that Max Verstappen was doing the best job of being a driver in the pinnacle of motorsport. He continued that the four-time champion deserved the win more than anybody else.

However, di Grassi accepted that it would be very hard for Verstappen to emerge victorious in the title battle this year. Regardless, the 28-year-old definitely cannot be counted out of the battle until the very last race.

So I think as a driver, Max is doing the job, and he deserves the title more than anybody else, but I think it will be very hard for him to win it. That’s my view.

Lucas di Grassi added.

Max Verstappen aims to have ‘perfect weekends’ to win 2025 title

Certainly, it will be one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Formula 1 if Max Verstappen actually manages to beat the McLarens. However, with just four races left, a 36-point gap is far too big to be covered easily, especially with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri looking stronger than ever. As such, the Dutchman, although confident in his approach, still isn’t overconfident in his winning chances.

Max Verstappen accepted that the 36-point gap was indeed a lot to cover. He insisted that he needed perfect weekends for all the remaining races, which wasn’t the case at the Mexico GP.

Hence, Verstappen accepted that his job was even harder after a mediocre outing in Mexico. Regardless, the Dutchman noted that he was still in the battle statistically and wouldn’t give up without a great fight.

It is a lot. As I said earlier, you need to have perfect weekends, and we did not have one this time. That makes the task even harder now. Statistically, we are still in it, but from now on we simply have to win everything. And if we do not, it is just not going to happen.

The 2025 season has been extremely exciting up until this very point. From this point forward, the battle is definitely going to cook up even more between the drivers at the forefront.

All the fans will cheer on for Max Verstappen as he hopes to achieve a great comeback late season. But Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will not make life any easier for the Dutchman in his championship ambitions.
