Ex-Ferrari Chief labels the ‘fun’ pairing of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton a ‘big risk’ unless the team has a ‘winning car’

Lewis Hamilton breaking up his alliance with Mercedes is a news that multiple key figures from F1 have talked about and dove into the details of it. Luca di Montezemolo is the former boss of Ferrari and has called this move an unexpected and impressive move.

The former Ferrari Chief was not the only one taken off guard by Hamilton’s decision to jump ship from his already successful venture at Mercedes. The Italian is looking toward Hamilton joining the Scuderia and teaming up with Ferrari’s golden boy Charles Leclerc.

[Charles] Leclerc is looking for his first title, it's going to be fun. But with two number-one drivers [Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc], it will be even more important to have a winning car. It is fundamental, otherwise this choice would prove to be a big risk. Luca di Montezemolo on Hamilton joining Ferrari, as reported by GPblog.com.

Montezemolo is excited about the new driver pairing at hand but fears that both the drivers equally want the championship as bad as the other. Lewis Hamilton is chasing his record-breaking 8th title, while the Monegasque driver is still on the hunt for his 1st title, and this hunger for being the better driver could harm the stable team dynamics at Ferrari currently.

How will the team dynamics at Ferrari be affected by Lewis Hamilton’s arrival?

The Briton is a seven-time world champion and is known for his ability to extract tenths of a second from the machinery that he is provided with. He is known for the hunger he has for the elusive 8th title that no one has ever achieved, this determination may in some way harm the stability at Ferrari.

Leclerc is Ferrari’s ‘Golden Boy’ and has been connected to Ferrari since his junior Formula racing days. After proving himself in the Alfa Romeo Sauber in 2018, he was promoted to the factory works team at Ferrari and excelled against his world-champion teammate Sebastian Vettel.

With the arrival of Hamilton at the scene, Leclerc could face some real trouble being the ‘number-one’ driver at the Italian outfit as Hamilton would be challenging him for the same status. Thus, it would be exciting to see how this driver pairing evolves and stays away from any troubles that could cause Ferrari any damage.
