Max Verstappen is the center of attention over rumors of wanting to leave Red Bull amidst their challenging time. The Dutchman has given it all in terms of performance, but Milton Keynes’ dismal pace has rendered him unable to fight for race wins now. Moreover, Christian Horner‘s sudden sacking from the team could push Verstappen to make the jump to Mercedes in the coming season. Now, the 1992 F1 champion, Nigel Mansell, has shared his opinion on the rumors of the 27-year-old looking to join Brackley.

Max Verstappen had previously issued his long-term loyalty to Red Bull following multiple rumors of wanting to join Mercedes. However, now, the Dutchman is reportedly in advanced talks with the German carmaker as they look to acquire him as early as 2026. It was previously speculated that Verstappen and Co. wanted to fire Christian Horner and then continue with the same team. Still, keeping in mind the Austrian outfit’s ever-so-worsening form, the 27-year-old might switch teams regardless.

Speaking of the undying Mercedes rumors for Max Verstappen, Nigel Mansell could not be more excited. The 71-year-old asserted that Verstappen is an outstanding world champion and driver at the pinnacle of motorsport. As such, Mansell hoped that the four-time champion would join whichever team made him the happiest and helped him keep scoring impressive results.

Max is an outstanding World Champion and driver, and I hope he gets to wherever he wants to get to, which will make him happy.

Nigel Mansell said, as reported by racingnews365

Nigel Mansell further talked highly of the chances of Verstappen actually joining Mercedes in the coming season. The 1992 champion believed that these rumors were ‘very good’ as the 27-year-old could finally return to his winning ways with Brackley. However, for now, the Dutchman would have to focus on the remaining 12 races with Red Bull and give it his all to score the race wins with his long-time team.

It’s a good rumour (referring to Verstappen joining Mercedes next season).

Sacked FIA Stewart insists Max Verstappen ‘not so happy’ at Red Bull now

Max Verstappen’s time at Red Bull this year has been very troublesome. It wouldn’t be surprising to witness the Dutchman switch teams due to this sudden slump in performance. Moreover, the upcoming 2026 F1 regulations could pose a massive disadvantage to Red Bull as they suffer from a loss of some crucial figures within the team. Following these conditions, sacked FIA steward Johnny Herbert reckons that Verstappen isn’t too pleased to continue at Milton Keynes currently.

Johnny Herbert pointed out that Red Bull’s performance at the end of the day was nothing short of a disappointment. This would definitely cause Max Verstappen to not be happy with his current condition in the team. To make matters worse, even Jos Verstappen would not be impressed by this form as he would now look into getting his son out of Milton Keynes. The reigning world champion would want to continue scoring race wins and ultimately the championship, which has slowly eroded away at Red Bull.

You’ve got the performances on the track at the end of the day, and a probably not so happy Max, definitely not a happy Jos, but it’s probably not a happy Max. Because Max, as you know, wants to be in a situation of winning races and a world championship, and that sort of, again, slowly, sort of eroded away over the last, what, year and a half, I guess.

Johnny Herbert told RacingNews365

The 2025 season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for Red Bull and Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is already losing hope in the Austrian outfit as they steer through a very difficult phase. However, the 27-year-old will not back down from giving it his all in the final 12 races this year, as it could be his last dozen races with the team. Time will tell if the rumors turn out to be true or if Verstappen decides to end his career with the same team that he started it all with.
