Fernando Alonso is known for pushing limits on track, but during F1’s winter break, the Aston Martin driver reminded fans that his passion for performance extends far beyond the cockpit.
The two-time world champion was recently spotted cruising through Monaco in his Aston Martin Valiant, an ultra-rare $3.2 million machine created by Aston Martin’s bespoke Q division. Alonso later shared the moment on Instagram, calling it a “Perfect Sunday ride” and adding, “Valiant, you’ve got it all.”
The understated post quickly drew attention, not only because of the car’s eye-watering valuation, but because of the story behind it.
The Aston Martin Valiant is not just another limited-edition hypercar. Announced in June 2024 and unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Valiant was developed as a direct collaboration between Aston Martin and Alonso himself.
Limited to just 38 units worldwide, the car builds on the legacy of the Valour while pushing further towards a raw, track-focused driving experience. Alonso has described the project as deeply personal, shaped by decades of competing at the highest level of motorsport.
“Valour was a spectacular celebration of Aston Martin’s 110th anniversary,” Alonso said. “It stirred me to create a more extreme, race car-inspired version that was track-focused, while also delivering a thrilling drive on-road.”
That philosophy influenced everything from the design language to the technical specification, with Alonso working closely alongside Aston Martin’s engineers throughout development.
According to Aston Martin, the Valiant blends cutting edge motorsport technology with obsessive weight reduction and exotic materials. The aim was clear: create a car that delivers an intense, emotional driving experience while remaining road legal.
Marco Mattiacci, Aston Martin’s global chief brand and commercial officer, described the Valiant as a “modern masterpiece,” highlighting its F1 inspired approach and uncompromising focus on the driver.
“The ultimate blend of performance, track-focused dynamics and hypercar intensity, Valiant embodies Aston Martin’s determined commitment to build rare and extraordinary cars for true drivers,” Mattiacci said.
For Alonso, the Valiant represents more than luxury, it’s an extension of his racing philosophy.
The Monaco sighting also comes during a meaningful personal chapter for Alonso. Away from the demands of the F1 calendar, the Spaniard is preparing to become a father, with Alonso and partner Melissa Jimenez expecting their first child together.
It adds a different layer to Alonso’s winter break, one that balances elite performance with life beyond racing. While Aston Martin continues laying groundwork for its future, including major regulation changes and long-term technical ambitions, Alonso is enjoying a rare moment of calm before another intense season.
Cruising Monaco in a car he helped create, Alonso appeared relaxed, reflective, and unmistakably at ease, a reminder that even F1’s fiercest competitors savor moments away from the grid.
