Formula E’s Stats Centre will use generative AI technology to redefine fan engagement by delivering advanced, data-driven insights.

Powered by Infosys Topaz for an Innovative Future

This innovation has been in the works since May 2023, conveying Infosys Topaz’s dedication to the future of motorsport.

Who is Infosys Topaz?

Infosys Topaz belongs to the multinational technology company Infosys, founded in 1981 in Bengaluru, India. They offer business consulting, information technology and outsourcing services globally.

Infosys surpassed $10 million in revenue in 1995, $100 million in 1999, $1 billion in 2004, and $10 billion in 2017. In 2023, its revenue stood at $18 billion, highlighting how important this technology company will become to Formula E.

What is the Stats Centre?

The Stats Centre will provide fans with interactive access to drivers and teams, key milestones and compelling narratives.

On top of that, this feature will make complex data easily digestible and foster a deeper connection between fans and Formula E.

The Formula E Stats Centre will have the following features:

Key Stat Cards:

  • Will adapt based on the season’s timeline, whether during a live race, offseason or in-season.
  • Provide fans with an in-depth understanding of past and upcoming racetracks, inspiring them to follow and look forward to those track locations.

Key Insights:

  • Ensures that fans are given accurate, relevant and engaging content.
  • It will deliver a richer experience for Formula E enthusiasts worldwide.
  • The Stats Centre generates AI-powered human-like text summarisations, a shift from the earlier process of manual editing.
  • Stats can offer powerful and insightful narratives across the past 10 seasons.
  • This helps fans track the journey and performance of the team and drivers they love the most.

AI Companion:

  • A simple interface that engages users and educates them about various milestones and stats across a Formula E season.
  • The companion would also showcase stats of drivers and teams across past seasons through a trending bubble interface.
  • It prompts unique questions to help fans access key summaries or insights.

When Will the Stats Centre Be Released?

The release of this product marks a significant step forward in Infosys’ three-year partnership with Formula E.

This important collaboration was announced by Infosys in a press release in May 2024, explaining:

Why Has This Technology Been Released?

Infosys Topaz focuses on sustainability goals, a founding principle of Formula E. For example, the sport achieved carbon neutrality in 2020, presenting their commitment to being net-zero.

Therefore, this partnership reaffirms Infosys’ purpose to create the next opportunity for people, communities and businesses.

Infosys will also be present at the Portland E-Prix on June 30 and the London E-Prix on July 31 for fans to see the collaboration in action.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, argued that:

“Fans are at the heart of what we do, and we’re thrilled to offer them a new and engaging way to connect with the sport.

As our first technical partnership with Infosys, we’re showcasing how innovation and technology can elevate the experience for everyone who loves Formula E, by making race data more accessible and easier to understand.

Fans will be able to follow their favourite driver and team with in-depth insights and track their performance over the seasons ahead.”

Sumit Virmani, EVP & Global Chief Marketing Officer of Infosys, said:

“Our partnership with Formula E proves how technology can revolutionize fan engagement.

The AI-powered Stats Center, fueled by Infosys Topaz, transforms raw data into compelling narratives, offering fans an immersive journey through driver and team performance, celebrating key milestones and unlocking compelling stories.

From dynamic stat cards that adapt to the race timeline to an AI companion that prompts engaging questions, we’re supercharging the Formula E fan experience, making its rich history, and exciting present more accessible and engaging, ultimately raising the bar for digital fan engagement.

Infosys spearheaded the migration of Formula E’s central datalake to Google Cloud, establishing a secure and scalable architecture that supports marketing, business intelligence, and sporting operations for Formula E.”

How Does This AI Product Work?

Infosys Topaz has 12,000+ AI assets, 150+ pre-trained AI models, and 10+ AI platforms steered by AI-first specialists and data strategists. This immense amount of data and training means the AI model will be accurate and knowledgeable.

The AI was trained using grounded knowledge bases containing information about all past seasons, races and drivers. AI generally uses algorithms and vast amounts of data to learn, identify patterns, and make predictions or decisions.

Machine learning will continuously improve the Stats Centre, training algorithms to make predictions or categorise information based on data, making it easier for fans to predict upcoming races as patterns emerge.
