Giancarlo Fisichella claims Mercedes’ quest for Lewis Hamilton’s replacement should end with Daniel Ricciardo

Lewis Hamilton single-handedly carried the legacy of Mercedes on his shoulders for several strong seasons where he won six World Championship titles ever since joining them in 2008. As a true-blue Silver Arrows racer who is going to enter his 12th F1 season with the team, it is quite baffling how Hamilton took the decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari. However, the questions that now arises is who will replace the living legend of Formula 1 once he moves to Maranello, leaving a perfect seat at one of the top-performing teams in F1 empty.

There are several names that have come up in the discussions regarding Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes replacement. While some of the fans believe Toto Wolff might summon former teammate of Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, back to the Silver Arrows cockpit, others are of the opinion that a seventeen-year old Mercedes junior, Kimi Antonelli, will grab the seat. Antonelli is a prodigious racer who has not even driven in FIA F2, and Toto Wolff recently claimed he is not ready yet to take up a seat at Mercedes.

Then, Mick Schumacher and Pierre Gasly are also some options fans think are worth looking into. But according to former F1 racer Giancarlo Fisichella, the answers to Mercedes quest for a perfect replacement for Lewis Hamilton lies at the Red Bull garage since their current reserve driver and V-CARB racer Daniel Ricciardo would be a great fit.

Daniel Ricciardo could be a good replacement for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes , because the team would need a driver with his experience. It would be good for a top team to have him. Giancarlo Fisichella said, as per FormulaPassion.it.

Dutch racer has claimed Red Bull are eyeing to sign Daniel Ricciardo as the replacement for Checo

Once the 2024 season comes to an end, a lot of the racers will find themselves without a contract if they do not get to extend their existing deals or agree to new ones soon. One of the most prominent names that comes up in this regard is Sergio Perez. The Mexican has his contract ending once the 2024 season gets over, and then Red Bull might not renew him for their 2025 campaign.

Speaking on his foretellings for the season ahead, Dutch racer Robin Frijns even claimed he expects Sergio Perez to drop out of the current grid as early as summer of 2024. Then, Red Bull will take up Daniel Ricciardo in his place.

I don't expect Pérez to survive until the end of this year. If Pérez doesn't make it, we'll see a driver change in the summer. Red Bull would really like Daniel to be back in this car. Frijns said, as reported by Formule1.nl.

In other news, the Honey Badger himself hosted former McLaren teammate Lando Norris in his home country when the youngster went to visit Ricciardo during the winter break. The ‘spontaneous’ visit, as Lando called it during his interview, turned out to be a great time as the former teammates did some fun activities together including motocross, which Lando was not supposed to have done.
