Helmut Marko claims ‘it remains to be seen’ if Red Bull can bounce back in Monaco GP Qualifying

Red Bull has got off to a difficult start at the Monaco GP. The reigning world champions have found itself behind Ferrari in terms of pure pace this weekend. However, Milton Keynes would be hoping to turn things around before Qualifying. Now, Dr. Helmut Marko stated that it was unclear if the team could sort out its issues for the rest of the weekend.

Marko emphasized on the need for Red Bull to try and limit the bouncing of the RB20. Moreover, the Austrian team had to ensure that the car did not lose more downforce on-track. Although, Helmut Marko claimed that Red Bull had gathered substantial data from long runs this weekend which could help improve the car.

We have to try not to make the car jump and not lose downforce. We learnt a lot from the long runs, so we know which direction to take to improve. Helmut Marko told Motorsport.com

Previously, Helmut Marko had claimed that Ferrari’s pace alarmed Milton Keynes. While team boss Christian Horner admitted that this was inevitable. However, Marko remained uncertain if Red Bull could put up a fight against the Scuderia in Qualifying on Saturday.

But whether we will be able to do that before qualifying, I would say, remains to be seen. Helmut Marko stated

The Red Bull RB20 has struggled with the Monaco track so far. The car has not allowed Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to push themselves to the limit. This would inevitably hamper Milton Keynes’ chances of bagging a race win on the iconic track.

Helmut Marko reckoned that the team needed a set-up which would allow the drivers to attack kerbs. Moreover, the 80-year-old recalled Max Verstappen’s comments that the car was bouncing like a kangaroo. Marko claimed that Perez too faced similar issues to the three-time world champion in free practice.

We have to look for a set-up that will allow us to attack the kerbs more. Max said the car was jumping like a kangaroo, and Perez also had the same problems. Helmut Marko asserted

Certainly, Red Bull needs a lot of work to do before it could potentially fight for pole in the streets of Monte Carlo. Max Verstappen could be at risk of losing his long-running streak of pole positions. However, it remains to be seen how things pan out in Qualifying.
