Honda hopes to ‘reunite’ with Max Verstappen after end of Red Bull deal in 2026
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

After their originally troubled entry in F1 with McLaren, Honda has been on a massive rise. The team has been working with Red Bull since 2019 and has helped Max Verstappen win three World Championships.

But, after the new regulations are introduced in 2026, Honda will be pairing up with Aston Martin. This would mark the end of their seven-year partnership with Max Verstappen and Red Bull. Interestingly though, during an interview, Honda Racing Corporation president, Koji Watanabe spoke about how he hopes Honda will get to work with the Dutchman soon after 2026.

Koji Watanabe has been working with Verstappen since 2019.

I don’t think that day will come within a very short period of time, but if both continue their Formula 1 activities in the future then we hope that we can work together again one day.

Watanabe also added how everyone at Honda loves the three-time World Champion and would happily work with him in the future. Only time will tell if the wish comes true.

Honda president reveals best memory with Max Verstappen and Red Bull

Max Verstappen and Honda have had massive success in F1 since they started working together in 2019. During the same interview, Koji Watanabe spoke about his favorite memory while working with Verstappen and Red Bull.

Watanabe spoke about how he felt proud during the podium celebrations as he saw Honda’s name on the podium after the win in Austria back in 2019 from the Dutchman. He also added how generally the Dutchman was always supportive of Honda since the start of their partnership.

My biggest memory is him pointing at the Honda logo on the podium in Austria at the Red Bull Ring,I was there, that was a very special moment for me. I was standing under the podium and that day was so special.

The 2019 Austrian Grand Prix was one of the Duthcman’s most hard-fought and satisfying victories as he was in a grueling fight with Charles Leclerc for the win. After the race, Verstappen went out of his way to involve Honda in the celebrations and that is something that seems to have touched the hearts of the entire team.
