Inspired by Former Rival Lewis Hamilton Shares an Update on His Future in F1

All great careers eventually face the same question: when is it time to step away? For Lewis Hamilton, who has been a fixture in Formula 1 for nearly two decades and is now driving for his third team, that question has been hanging in the air more often lately.

With age creeping up and results not quite matching the highs of his dominant years, speculation about retirement has only grown louder. But Hamilton isn’t ready to close that chapter just yet. In fact, inspired by a former rival, he’s made it clear he believes there’s still plenty left in the tank—and plenty more racing ahead of him.

When asked about stepping away from the sport recently he said, "I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I really appreciate that Fernando is still going, because he's still older than me. I'll keep going until he's 50!"

Fernando Alonso is 44 now and has been on the F1 grid since 2001. In that time, he’s won titles, stepped away from the sport, made a comeback, switched teams more than once and he’s still going strong. When you look at that, Lewis Hamilton can’t help but draw comparisons. He’s four years younger than Alonso and says seeing Fernando still competing at such a high level is proof that he’s got plenty left to give too.

Lewis Hamilton Provides an Update on His $13 Million Car Collection

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that his once-famous car collection is no more. The seven-time world champion says he’s sold the lot, swapping his love of rare supercars for a passion for art. Still, there’s one Italian icon he admits he could never resist the Ferrari F40.

Speaking before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Hamilton was asked about Ferrari’s latest flagship, the F80, but brushed it off. “I don’t have cars anymore,” he said. “If I was going to have one, it’d be the F40. That’s a piece of art.”

Over the years, Hamilton’s garages in Monaco and Los Angeles were packed with machines worth an estimated £13 million—everything from a Pagani Zonda built just for him to a McLaren F1, LaFerraris, and even a 1966 Shelby Cobra. These days, he prefers motorcycles, often spotted on a Ducati or his own MV Agusta special edition. Yet Hamilton still dreams of creating his own Ferrari an “F44” inspired by the F40.
