'It was not an emergency' ex-F1 driver claims Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton ‘too early’ after Carlos Sainz’s Australian GP victory

Lewis Hamilton announced his switch to Ferrari next year before the commencement of the 2024 season. Many have claimed that Mercedes’ degrading form could’ve been the reason for the shocking transfer. Ferrari’s decision to sign Hamilton caught Carlos Sainz off-guard as he was ousted unwarranted. However, the Spaniard has bounced back with an incredible victory at the Australian GP.

Ex-F1 driver Christian Danner shared his opinions over Hamilton’s move to Maranello and how Ferrari might’ve taken the decision hastily. Danner asserted how Lewis Hamilton took the ‘Mercedes plague’ on his side. Additionally, the 65-year-old took a jibe at how Daniel Ricciardo had fallen off in his career. The German asserted that Hamilton had not dropped off in performance like Ricciardo has done.

Lewis has really taken the Mercedes plague on his side, It’s not as if he’s suddenly fallen behind like Ricciardo. Christian Danner told motorsport-magazin.com.

Danner showcased empathy towards Hamilton and mentioned that he didn’t blame the Briton for stumbling during the 2024 season. However, Carlos Sainz‘s was in such good form that he could put the seven-time world champion to shame. According to the 65-year-old, Fred Vasseur had maybe decided to switch drivers ‘too early’ as the 39-year-old hasn’t been on his A-game lately. Hence, Vasseur needed to ‘wait a little longer’ as replacing drivers wasn’t an emergency for Maranello.

I wouldn’t blame Lewis for stumbling at the moment. But one thing is clear: Sainz is in such a form – when he has Leclerc under control like that – you can say that Fred Vasseur may have decided too early. He should have waited a little longer, It wasn’t an emergency. Christian Danner noted.

Christian Danner praises Carlos Sainz ‘aggressiveness’ after being replaced by Lewis Hamilton

Carlos Sainz garnered compliments from everyone on the paddock following his stellar victory at the Australian GP. Christian Danner mentioned that if a future number one driver like Leclerc or Hamilton was blown away by Sainz, it would be rather difficult for not just the future leader but for the team as well.

If I, as a future number one driver, am blown away by the fired driver, that’s difficult. Christian Danner told.

Apart from this, Danner praised Sainz’s recent performances and pinpointed some key traits of the Spaniard. The former driver declared how he liked the fact that the 29-year-old raced with full commitment and aggressiveness. Hence, deciding not to renew Carlos Sainz might not have been the best decision made by the Scuderia.

Sainz goes at it with a commitment, a joy and an aggressiveness that I really like! Christian Danner highlighted.

Regardless of Carlos Sainz’s situation, the 29-year-old would maximize results down the season to potentially outscore his teammate. The Spaniard currently has no contract in Formula 1 beyond 2024, despite rumored interest from Audi. Hence, Sainz’s performances will help him secure a seat for next season.
