Kevin Magnussen urges F1 to ‘throw a curveball’ in the form of Sprints to compensate for the ‘overtaking’ issue at the Monaco GP
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Haas F1 team driver, Kevin Magnussen has floated the idea of a sprint race at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Danish driver suggests it would be a ‘curveball’ to compensate for the lack of overtaking due to narrow pavements around the circuit.

Monaco has been a very exciting track for F1 but lacks the high-speed overtaking and duels compared to the other circuits on the calendar. The race in Monaco requires the drivers to play an important role in tire management and perform well in qualifying to start in the higher positions on the grid.

Kevin Magnussen has suggested that drivers would want to take more time around the 3.337 km track as it is quite exciting as well as challenging.

We know there’s no overtaking in the race, so it does feel now, with all these other races where overtaking is pretty good and racing is pretty good, that it is a bit of a weird one because there’s so little. Maybe there could be more qualifying sessions or a sprint [race] to throw a curveball. Kevin Magnussen via RaceFans

Kevin Magnussen has been a loyal driver to the Haas team and welcomes a challenge in the form of a sprint at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Dane feels that a Sprint around the short track will be filled with lots of action and entertainment for the drivers as well as the fans.

Kevin Magnussen given ultimatum by Haas boss

Haas team principal, Ayao Komatsu has reminded Kevin Magnussen of his responsibilities as a driver for the Kannapolis-based team. Komatsu has called for Magnussen to crunch up his performances as the season proceeds into round eight of the 2024 F1 calendar.

Yes, [he’s fighting for his seat]. I can’t say much, but of course, yes, he needs to perform. But then a drive like [Imola] is very, very good. So now Kevin needs to put the whole weekend together. Ayao Komatsu told Speed City Broadcasting

Magnussen has scored only one point so far this season and is being overshadowed by the heroics of his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg. The German has been clutch for Haas and has shown that the VF-24 is capable of being a very settled mid-table machinery.

As Magnussen fights for his F1 seat, he will look to improve his performance at the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix. For a solid result in the 78-lap race, qualifying will be key from the Dane’s perspective.
