Lando Norris leaves door open for ‘cool’ Lewis Hamilton-like Ferrari switch in future
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The F1 off-season saw seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton announce his move to Ferrari from 2025. The move is one of, if not the biggest driver transfers in the history of the sport.

Following the announcement, McLaren driver Lando Norris recently shared his thoughts about Lewis Hamilton‘s move and his own future with McLaren. The number four driver added how he doesn’t want to leave the Papaya team after their recent resurgence under Andrea Stella. He also said that Hamilton’s move was ‘cool’ eluding a possible move of his own in the future.

Lando Norris has been driving for McLaren since 2019.

I would never say no to it, I think it’s still a cool thing like that. But I would say, the Lewis [Hamilton] move is cool. That’s all I would say. And I respected that. I thought that was a cool move to do. So not saying that’s exactly what I’d like – not say anything else, I’m just saying… I’m not saying I want to go to Ferrari now, I’m just saying there are certain things that are just cool to do.

This could be the Briton’s way of keeping his options open after his contract runs out with McLaren. Moreover, driving for the Ferrari is something every young driver dreams of. Only time will tell if the driver decides to move the Red outfit once his contract with the Woking-based team ends in a few years.

Lando Norris shares an insight into the future with McLaren

Lando Norris and McLaren have amassed decent success together. The Briton was backed by the papaya outfit since his days in the junior categories and they always saw him as their golden boy.

During the same interview, Norris shared his thoughts on his future with the team.

But I think it’s a cool story if I was always ever with McLaren. I love it, I love my team, I love the people I work with, I’m happy, and if that’s how it always goes. But there’s that second part of me which is also a competitor, who wants to win. And finding which one has a higher priority at different times, and when is a good time to switch from one to another in terms of ‘Let’s go somewhere.

Norris added how he loves McLaren but, after a point of time in his career, he might leave if he doesn’t have the right package to compete at the front for wins and world championships. But, as of now, it looks like the driver is fully committed to delivering the best results for the Zak Brown-led team. The outfit is currently third in the 2024 Constructors Championship.
