Lando Norris was able to defend his pole position against Oscar Piastri and win the Austrian Grand Prix at Red Bull Ring in Styria on Sunday. With the win, Norris cut Piastri’s lead to 15 points in the driver championship standings.
In stark difference to McLaren, which finished 1-2, Red Bull had a disastrous weekend. Max Verstappen qualified 7th after getting stuck behind yellow flags in Q3, and Yuki Tsunoda has the worst showing for Red Bull in Austria, qualifying 18th. Making matters worse, Verstappen was forced to retire from the race on the opening lap after Kimi Antonelli crashed into him.

Additionally, Tsunoda finished 16th and outside the points, snapping Red Bull’s 77 consecutive race scoring streak. With Red Bull continuing to keep pace with McLaren, rumors are circulating that Verstappen may be looking to switch teams, possibly to Mercedes or Aston Martin.
Behind McLaren, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished P3 and P4. It was the second consecutive strong showing for Ferrari, despite team principal Fred Vasseur being absent due to personal reasons.
Next up is Norris and Hamilton’s home race, the British GP. Red Bull and Verstappen will need to have a strong showing otherwise both Norris and Piastri will begin to separate themselves from Verstappen in the drivers’ championship.
