Lewis Hamilton made his debut as a Ferrari driver at his home race this weekend. The seven-time world champion had high expectations in front of his home fans. However, Hamilton’s bad luck continued at the British GP, with another disappointing result. Now, the F1 star has admitted that strategy ruined his race this time around.
The seven-time world champion started from the third row, alongside teammate Charles Leclerc. The wet weather conditions made it challenging for drivers, with many struggling for grip. Lewis Hamilton seemed steady over the course of the race. Unfortunately, the Ferrari pitwall made a couple of wrong decisions that led to Hamilton losing a couple of places after a pitstop.
The Ferrari driver did showcase his experience in these conditions, bringing himself back up to fourth place. However, he could’ve easily been on the podium. After the race,
Lewis Hamilton admitted that the team made one bad strategy call. The British driver could not understand how he lost four positions when he came out of the pits. Though, on the bright side, this mistake allowed Nico Hulkenberg to grab his first-ever podium in Formula 1.
I think the first one [second call first pit-stop] wasn’t a good call, clearly, because we got undercut by a bunch of people, so I’m not really sure what exactly happened there. We’ll have to go back and see what happened, but I was P4 and came out P8.

Rain never makes anything easy in Formula 1. Drivers are forced to continue racing with virtually no visibility. This makes even champions like Lewis Hamilton prone to mistakes. The 40-year-old did his best to keep it in one piece, but made a couple of errors during the race.
Lewis Hamilton asserted that he managed to pick up the pace at the right time, ensuring that he could get back into the top 5. However, the challenging track conditions made it much more difficult for the Ferrari star. Lewis Hamilton revealed that he ran wide on several occasions during the race. The fact that a seven-time world champion faced such difficulties truly proves that rain can become a major headache for all drivers. Nevertheless, a P4 result would still be decent for the Briton.
I chose to come in close to the right time, but it was super tricky when i got back out and i lost a ton of time, i went off turn 3, turn 9… turn 11, so it was just [one of those days].
Lewis Hamilton added
While British fans could not see one of their local stars on the podium, it was Lando Norris who won the race. The McLaren star’s victory could be seen as the new era of Formula 1 with Lewis Hamilton struggling to catch up. Luckily for British fans, the Union Jack remained on the top step of the podium at Silverstone.
