Max Verstappen is the center of attention throughout the British GP weekend due to the incessant Mercedes rumors. The Dutchman is rumored to be considering joining Brackley, ditching his long-time team due to their dismal performance. While there is nothing certain yet, Lewis Hamilton is all here for it. The 40-year-old was questioned regarding his thoughts on this move as he reflects on his past comments over Verstappen’s current team.

Red Bull’s start in Formula 1 as a team was very rocky after they acquired the ill-fated Jaguar F1 team. Many people cast doubts on an energy drink manufacturer running as a racing team at the pinnacle of motorsports. A couple of decades later, Milton Keynes boasts eighth drivers’ title with six constructors championship under their belt. Lewis Hamilton was among the many people who were pessimistic over Red Bull’s chances in the sport and what it entailed.

Lewis Hamilton reflected on his comments back when Mercedes enjoyed their era of dominance from 2014 to 2020. The Briton noted that Max Verstappen was coming from a great team in Red Bull and wouldn’t have a lack of experience whatsoever. Subsequently, the 40-year-old recalled his words on the matter and took them back gracefully.

Hamilton asserted that he was a diehard Mercedes fan and didn’t want to warm up to the idea of Red Bull actually dominating in Formula 1. Similarly to many others, the Briton discounted the Austrian outfit’s chances, writing them off as just an energy drink manufacturer. However, now, the 40-year-old insisted that he regretted those words as he was simply trying to hype his own team up in a rather unconventional way.

I mean, he’s coming from a great team, Many many years ago, I was being asked something, I think I was just so diehard Mercedes at the time, and I remember saying something about Red Bull being only a drinks company, and I always regretted it, because I was just saying that Mercedes at the time was just great, I was really just trying to gee up my team.

Lewis Hamilton finds Max Verstappen’s Mercedes rumors ‘interesting’

Max Verstappen is the center of incessant rumors of joining Mercedes as soon as the 2026 season. The Dutchman hasn’t commented much on the matter, but did not decline the possibility either. Now, Lewis Hamilton, who once laughed at Verstappen’s chances at Red Bull, has talked about the latter joining his former team in Formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton asserted that he had to back Mercedes whenever a question was raised against the team. The German carmaker boasts great passion and personnel with advanced factories for challenger development. As such, the seven-time champion reckoned that it would be interesting to see what Max Verstappen decides on his future in the pinnacle of motorsport. Verstappen joining Mercedes would be a great deal as he would finally race against his long-time team in Red Bull.

But what I can say, if anyone was going to ask me about Mercedes, it’s an amazing team also, with naturally the passion, they’ve got great personnel, it’s a great factory, great environment to work in. So, of course I would say… Be interesting to see what happens.

The 2025 season is halfway in with the British GP right around the corner. Red Bull’s woes have been present even in Silverstone as Max Verstappen starts to lose even more hope in the Austrian outfit. Now, with just 12 more races left this season, Milton Keynes must achieve an immediate turnaround in results if they want to retain the four-time champion.
