Lewis Hamilton deems Monaco’s Friday running ‘best day on track’ after strong FP1 and FP2 performance
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Lewis Hamilton put on an impressive performance on Friday in FP1 and FP2 at the Monaco Grand Prix. The 39-year-old driver clocked the fastest and the second fastest time in the two sessions respectively.

Lewis Hamilton has not had a good start this season and has struggled to find pace and balance in the W15. However, on Friday, Hamilton had an encouraging outing where he set the fastest lap time of all in FP1.

Mercedes has not been particularly impressive in finding grip and balance in their car this season despite major upgrades for the circuits of Imola and Miami. However the team was confident that their efforts would not be in vain, the results of which showed in FP1 and FP2 in Monaco.

It’s been a good day, definitely been the best day we’ve had on track. The car was feeling really positive, really enjoying driving. The track is amazing!. The grip was feeling quite good. We still had some challenges with the balance but it was looking strong. Lewis Hamilton said post practice in Monaco.

Hamilton will now look to continue his performance in FP3 and qualifying as he tries to gain as much of an advantage as possible going into the 78-lap race. As for Mercedes, they rely on the outcomes of their main man to score points and hopefully convert it into their first win of the 2024 season.

Lewis Hamilton speaks on qualifying deficits to George Russell

Lewis Hamilton shared his thoughts regarding poor performance in qualifying compared to teammate George Russell. The latter has outpaced Hamilton on six occasions this season and has been more promising in finding pace on Saturdays.

I wouldn’t say it’s not been a priority, but the whole weekend has been a priority to improve everywhere. But particularly since the end of last year and then all this year, it has been pretty bad on a Saturday, but it is what it is. Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with PlanetF1.com

Hamilton has focused more on the idea of improving the performance during the entire weekend, as merely being faster in qualifying has not equated to fruitful results. The seven-time world champion hence elaborated that the performance of the W15 has been mediocre ever since the start of this year.

As the Monaco Grand Prix approaches, Hamilton will look to capitalize on his advantage around the streets he knows best, being a three-time race winner in Monte Carlo. He will face tough competition from the likes of Ferrari and McLaren, who have been in fine form this season, but despite everything, the upcoming days will exciting for sure.
