Lewis Hamilton laments disastrous FP2 at Australian GP, brands it as the ‘worst ever’

Another week of ominous start for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. On Friday, during Free Practice 2, Hamilton was seen struggling a lot with the Mercedes W15 and was able to place himself at P18, toward the south end of the chart. There were changes made to Hamilton’s car ahead of FP, and the team principal believes it is probably, the reason behind the bad result.

The Mercedes W15 was anticipated to be a challenger that would enable the team to regain its position at the top, but as things stand, it is wiping out any optimism the team may have had for this season. The bumping problem left Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton frustrated during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The team has been attempting to identify the underlying problem with the car. It appears they have not yet identified it based on today’s FP1 and FP2 sessions.

I obviously don’t feel great. We had one of the worst sessions I’ve probably had for a long time.   Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with the race

Mercedes was determined to solve the issues with the car during the last two weeks ahead of the ongoing Australian GP weekend. It looks as if the team has failed to achieve it. Drivers are feeling helpless, and Mercedes is dropping on the timing sheets as well. For the team to bounce back, they will need to fix the issues as soon as they can.

Lewis Hamilton sets target on ‘beating’ Ferrari in 2024

The biggest plot twist was unveiled at the start of the season when Lewis Hamilton announced his move to Ferrari in 2025. It was a childhood dream of the seven-time world champion to drive for the iconic Italian brand.

But Hamilton is fully focused on leaving his current team on a high note. He wishes to bring Mercedes back on top and beat Ferrari in the 2024 Constructors Championship.

My goal is to beat Ferrari this year, and next season, it’ll be the other way around… An opportunity arose, and I didn’t let it slip away. All of us drivers sat in the garage and wondered what it would be like to drive the red car. Lewis Hamilton said on Dazn’s True Driver

Signing for Ferrari is indeed a dream come true scenario for Hamilton, but as of this moment, it seems quite difficult for the Brit to beat his future employer. Mercedes’s new challenger is currently posing a lot of challenges to the team. Sooner or later Mercedes will have to get on top of the fundamental issues if they are to challenge Ferrari this year.
