Max Verstappen‘s time at Red Bull has remained extremely troublesome. The Dutchman is unable to compete for race wins anymore due to the team’s mediocre pace. Due to the incessant performance struggles, rumors have started to come up about Verstappen seeking to exit the Austrian outfit. Mercedes remains at the top of the rumors as the 27-year-old will likely consider jumping ship to Brackley. Following the rumors, the reigning world champion has finally broken silence and revealed the ground reality.

Red Bull’s performance in the 2025 season has been nothing short of a disappointment. Max Verstappen was already wary of the issues the team was bound to face in the final year of the ground-effect era. However, with seemingly no coming out of the problematic situation, Verstappen has reportedly started to lose hope in the team. Due to this, some outlets are reporting that the Dutchman’s move to Mercedes is already a done deal.

Max Verstappen had previously issued his long-term loyalty to Red Bull after winning his fourth consecutive drivers’ title. But now the situation is completely different, and it wouldn’t be wrong for the Dutchman to consider switching teams. Mercedes is also reportedly making great advancements with their 2026 power units, as they could dominate the new era.

Regardless of this possibility, Max Verstappen is yet to be interested in joining Mercedes or any other rival team, for that matter. The Dutchman clearly stated that he had nothing to add to the speculations. The 27-year-old acknowledged that anything he said about the matter would only cause more rumors to come up. Verstappen asserted that he didn’t want even more eyes on the status quo and concluded that he decided his own future and not the media.

I do not have to add much to that. The more I say about it, the more it will be reported in the media. And I certainly do not want that. I determine my own future.

Max Verstappen provides realistic ‘timeline’ on final future call

Max Verstappen is likely playing the waiting game and not revealing too much too soon. The 27-year-old already has a dislike towards the media and their tactics as he is not going to speak publicly about this just yet. The four-time world champion is also a girl dad now as this massive change could play a major role in his future in the pinnacle of motorsport. As such, Verstappen provides a realistic timeline on when he plans to lock in his situation in the coming years.

Max Verstappen insisted that he couldn’t give a definitive answer about whether the multiple conversations were successful or not. The Dutchman pinpointed that the summer break would be a realistic time frame for him to witness the team’s performance and then make a decision. However, the 27-year-old clarified that Red Bull’s downfall didn’t mean he suddenly started to overthink his continuity at the Austrian constructor.

Of course there will be updates, so I can’t immediately say that it is now… I can’t really give a definitive answer about whether it is a success or not. Around the summer break I think it will be clear what will happen this season in terms of performance. But it is not that I suddenly think more now than last year or the years before.

Max Verstappen added

There are some serious rumors of Verstappen looking to get Christian Horner fired from Red Bull. Moreover, the team’s own former four-time champion Sebastian Vettel is looking to join Milton Keynes if Helmut Marko decides to retire. If these conditions are met, the 27-year-old might reconsider his options and then take a definitive stance on his future at the Austrian outfit.
