Max Verstappen’s alter ego Franz Hermann made a surprise “comeback” over the Monaco Grand Prix weekend — not behind the wheel, but on Verstappen’s own merch site.
For those unfamiliar, Franz Hermann is a pseudonym Verstappen recently used to sneak a few laps at the Nordschleife. He registered under the fake name to keep things quiet, but fans and trackside spotters quickly figured it out.
Ever since, “Franz Hermann” has been a running gag among Verstappen’s fanbase and the F1 paddock.
During a media appearance in Monaco, Verstappen was asked about the mysterious Mr. Hermann. “I think he is pretty booked up,” Verstappen said with a smile. “He’s taking the weekend off.”
The reporter pointed out that Franz Hermann had seemingly launched his own merch line on Verstappen’s official site. Verstappen laughed, replying, “Yeah yeah. Free of charge as well! I am very generous.”
The merch drop — featuring Franz Hermann-branded stickers and apparel — sent fans into a frenzy on social media, with many celebrating Verstappen’s sense of humor and self-awareness.
