Max Verstappen Reveals the Surprising Story Behind Naming His Daughter Lily

For a man used to blazing through corners at 200 mph, Max Verstappen is now navigating a very different kind of challenge—fatherhood. The reigning Formula 1 world champion recently welcomed his first biological child, daughter Lily, with longtime partner Kelly Piquet.

“It’s really a zoo at home now!” he said with a laugh in a refreshingly candid interview with Viaplay. “The cats and the dog find it all interesting. The cat tries to jump in the stroller all the time, so you have to keep it a bit at a distance.”

While Verstappen has embraced the role of a father-like figure to Piquet’s daughter Penelope for years, holding his own newborn for the first time hit differently. When it came to naming their daughter, the couple took their time.

“The first few months we really felt like: what are we actually going to call our child? Yeah, no idea. And at some point… I don’t know. It just sounded nice,” the Dutchman shared. “Lily is short, also with the last name. No name in between, just Lily.”

As for Lily’s nationality, Verstappen confirmed she’ll have both Dutch and Brazilian passports. “Let’s just keep it easy,” he said, nodding to their cultural roots.

The four-time world champion also admitted to doing his share of parenting duties. When asked about changing diapers. “Kelly had it all under control—it all went well.”

And in classic Max fashion, he couldn’t resist a little humor about post-baby lifestyle. “Of course I also got pregnant a bit,” he joked while nibbling on a rusk. “ So of course I’m also at the limit with my weight.”

His final punchline? Delivered with the ease of someone who’s still razor-sharp behind the wheel:

“Now we just have to brake a little later in Turn 1!”

In between title fights and podiums, Verstappen is adjusting to a new kind of rhythm. And judging by his grin, he’s loving every second of it.
