Max Verstappen to NASCAR? Never Say Never

The idea used to sound completely ridiculous.

Now? NASCAR fans are starting to believe it could actually happen.

As Max Verstappen continues embracing endurance racing and showing interest in competing outside Formula 1, speculation is growing about a potential NASCAR appearance someday — and the rumored San Diego Street Race suddenly feels like the perfect place for it.

If there were ever a realistic scenario for Verstappen to try NASCAR, a street circuit with Trackhouse Racing and Red Bull branding attached makes more sense than people want to admit.

It is still a longshot. Nobody should pretend otherwise.

But it is no longer impossible.

Trackhouse has built its entire identity around bold crossover moments, global star power and making NASCAR feel culturally relevant outside its traditional audience. The organization already has international connections, a modern image and a willingness to take swings other teams might avoid.

Then there is the Red Bull factor.

Verstappen is the face of Red Bull Racing globally, and NASCAR’s growing interest in street racing and international attention creates an obvious marketing opportunity. A one-off Cup appearance from Verstappen would instantly become one of the biggest motorsports stories of the year.

And honestly, the timing feels different than it would have a decade ago.

The current NASCAR Cup car races more like a heavy sports car than the old stock cars many international drivers struggled to adapt to. On a street circuit — especially one emphasizing braking zones, technical corners and aggression — Verstappen’s skill set could translate surprisingly well.

Fans know it too.

Social media has already started fantasy-booking the idea of Verstappen in a Trackhouse Chevrolet with Red Bull colors attacking a San Diego street course. For longtime NASCAR fans frustrated by declining mainstream buzz, it feels like the kind of crossover moment the sport desperately needs.

Would Verstappen actually do it? That is the biggest question.

But the reason fans are dreaming now is simple: Verstappen does not think like most modern F1 stars. He genuinely loves racing everything. GT cars, endurance races, sim racing — he wants competition wherever he can find it.

That mindset makes even the wildest rumors feel slightly believable.

A few years ago, Verstappen running NASCAR would have sounded impossible. Today, it sounds crazy — but crazy enough that fans can realistically imagine it happening.
