Lewis Hamilton made headlines before the Belgian Grand Prix with one of the standout comments of the 2025 Formula 1 season, saying he ‘refuses’ to leave Ferrari without winning a world championship.

Hamilton noted that Ferrari have had ‘amazing’ drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso during their title drought. Kimi Raikkonen (2007) remains their last champion.

In his view, Ferrari haven’t been operating at full capacity. That’s why their level of success isn’t in line with their immense resources.

To address that issue, Hamilton has been sending document after document of feedback to the team. At the age of 40, he knows that he’s short on time to instigate a transformation.

Nico Rosberg says Lewis Hamilton is ‘working as hard as ever’ at Ferrari

Nico Rosberg has a good relationship with Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur and has spoken to him about Hamilton’s efforts behind the scenes.

According to Vasseur, Hamilton is working extremely hard and hasn’t let his disappointing results affect his motivation.

The seven-time world champion didn’t manage a podium in the first half of the season and arrived at Spa sixth in the standings, 131 points behind the leader.

“I’m friends with Fred Vasseur, his boss, and I know, which is very nice to hear, that he’s pushing like crazy behind the scenes,” said Rosberg.

“He’s working as hard as ever, he’s not giving up or anything. That’s a cool thing to hear about.”

Ferrari have now stopped development for 2025 after introducing a rear suspension upgrade. If they get next year’s regulations wrong, Hamilton’s hopes of an eighth title could be out of reach.

Lewis Hamilton is taking things further than Michael Schumacher did

Interestingly, another former teammate, George Russell, has noticed a shift in Hamilton’s approach since his move away from the top step. According to Russell, Hamilton is now more dialled in than ever before.

These days, Hamilton is often one of the first to arrive at the track and one of the last to leave. He’s trying to have the same impact Michael Schumacher once had at Ferrari.

Schumacher didn’t win his first title with Ferrari until his fifth season, but he had a huge role in building that team up into a dominant force.

Hamilton is said to be going even further than Schumacher did in terms of preparation and commitment. It’s worth remembering that he won titles quickly at both McLaren and Mercedes, picking them up in just his second season with each team.
