Nico Rosberg Snubs Max Verstappen to Name All-Time F1 Great Despite Italian GP dominance

Max Verstappen put forth one of his better performances at the recent Italian GP. Verstappen won the race after starting from pole position and built a massive 19-second gap to the trailing driver in Lando Norris. Despite the Dutchman’s impressive victory in a comparatively inferior chassis, 2016 F1 champion Nico Rosberg doesn’t believe the former to be the all-time great in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Ahead of the race, Max Verstappen wasn’t so confident of his chances to succeed, especially after Red Bull did not bring a special rear wing. However, Verstappen started the weekend off with a bang and achieved a pole position. Still, the Dutchman did not celebrate too early and kept his expectations at a minimum. Regardless, the four-time champion made all the difference on the track and ultimately emerged victorious.

Following the Italian GP win, Max Verstappen reduced the deficit to the championship leader Oscar Piastri to 94 points and could come into the mix for the driver’s title down the season. Despite racing in an extremely mediocre chassis, Verstappen has kept up with the dominant results. However, Nico Rosberg doesn’t credit the 27-year-old much and snubs him from being the greatest driver in Formula 1.

Nico Rosberg insisted that he believed Max Verstappen to be only among the top five drivers of all time in Formula 1. The Dutchman kept on proving himself, but he was good enough to only be considered among the top five. Subsequently, Rosberg asserted that his list for the all-time greats in Formula 1 started with Lewis Hamilton, and Verstappen coming after him. The Briton further noted that Ayrton Senna, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Michael Schumacher were the other greats, according to him.

So Max Verstappen, top five driver of all time in the history of our sport. And he keeps on showing that which is amazing. My list is Hamilton, Verstappen, Senna, Fangio and Schumacher.

Nico Rosberg reveals Max Verstappen’s ‘new facet’ in F1

The RB21 challenger at the Italian GP was still problematic, but the straight-line speed was much better compared to the previous races. Still, Max Verstappen believes that Red Bull isn’t completely back to their winning ways just yet. Even Nico Rosberg accepted that the Dutchman was racing in an inferior chassis, but his peculiar traits and facets helped him emerge victorious in Monza.

Nico Rosberg pointed out that Max Verstappen is now being extremely smart and educated about his setup decisions and what to do with them. The 2016 F1 champion believed that the Dutchman hadn’t showcased this facet of himself that often. Regardless, this ability of Verstappen was impressive as it was one of the key ingredients that helped him secure the victory on Sunday.

His car [Max Verstappen’s] wasn’t the best car this weekend. I’m pretty sure of that. What I learned about Max Verstappen is that he’s also now becoming, or has been, I don’t know, so smart that he actually does such fundamental setup decisions. hat’s also a new facet which I haven’t seen so often yet. And that’s impressive, because that’s probably one of the key ingredients to the win this weekend.

Nico Rosberg noted

The 2025 season only has eight races remaining now, as Max Verstappen seems to get a better grip with the challenger. Verstappen has cut short his deficit to the runner-up spot to just 63 points now. As such, the Dutchman can have a realistic shot at fighting for the P2 spot down the season against Lando Norris, if not the driver’s title this year.
