Max Verstappen has suffered from a rollercoaster of a year in 2025. Despite the woeful slump, Verstappen has kept up with positive race results and has remained a dominating force on track. Red Bull’s challenger has remained difficult to excel in as the second driver in the team has continued to suffer from a difficult time.
Now, amid the team’s problematic state, the team’s most recent winning second driver, Sergio Perez, has talked about how even Lewis Hamilton couldn’t match the 27-year-old at Milton Keynes.
Sergio Perez was one of the many drivers who couldn’t match up to the standards that Max Verstappen had set at Red Bull. Although the Mexican driver was one of the finest second drivers to the reigning world champion, he was still snubbed brutally from the team amid failing results. Since then, no other second driver has been able to perform as well as Perez did back in the day.
Now, Red Bull’s challenger is known to be highly unstable and set up more for Max Verstappen. While there is some truth in this, the Dutchman is simply unmatched in terms of performing well in any car.
As such, Sergio Perez reckoned that being next to Verstappen was difficult as is, more so when they were paired up at Milton Keynes. Amongst many things to say, Perez raised surety on the fact that teaming up with the 27-year-old was a very difficult job.
Being next to Max is very difficult, but being next to Max in Red Bull is something people don’t understand. There are so many things I could tell you, but it is simply a very difficult job for a driver.
Sergio Perez said, as reported by Sky Sports.
Sergio Perez boldly claimed that no driver can survive against Max Verstappen. Even if Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc were put against the reigning world champion, they would struggle massively against Verstappen. Perez explained that the Dutchman’s driving style was very unique, and a driver needed to constantly adapt their driving style as per the needs of the former.
No driver can survive there. It doesn’t matter if you bring Hamilton, Leclerc. Whoever you bring there is going to struggle massively. It’s a very unique driving style. You have to constantly be adapting to the needs of Max. It’s as simple as that.
Sergio Perez added.
Midway through the 2025 season, Max Verstappen was unable to keep up with his race-winning form. The Dutchman lost out massively in the title fight and claimed that his results did not matter anymore, as he was not in the title battle.
However, his recent winning streak has placed him well amid the leading pack, and he is a serious contender for the championship now. As such, Sergio Perez christened the 27-year-old with an impressive title.
Sergio Perez asserted that Max Verstappen had been the action of the year, and he made the fans keep watching the sport. The Mexican highlighted that somehow, Verstappen and Co. transformed their performances this year, and they had a chance of winning the title amid McLaren’s struggling form. Perez declared that the Dutchman deserved the title the most as he drove phenomenally this year.
Max has been the action of the year. He’s keeping everyone watching F1, Somehow, they have transformed the season and with McLaren messing around, he has a chance of getting it done. I think he’s the driver who deserves the championship the most because he’s been driving phenomenally.
Sergio Perez noted.
The 2025 season is nearing completion as there are just four races left. However, the driver’s title battle is far from over, and Max Verstappen is just 36 points adrift of the lead.
For now, Verstappen will take the season race by race and hope to emerge as a winning force in all of them. It will certainly be one of the greatest comeback stories in F1 if the 27-year-old lifts the title trophy this time around.
