Sergio Perez will return to Formula 1 in 2026 as part of Cadillac’s debut lineup, with the Mexican driver confirmed alongside Valtteri Bottas.
The announcement marks a notable comeback for Perez, who left Red Bull at the end of 2024 and has been absent from the grid this season. After months of speculation, the 35-year-old has committed to Cadillac, having previously said he would only rejoin the sport if the right project emerged.

Backed by General Motors, the American outfit will make its F1 debut in 2026, and the experience of Perez and Bottas has been highlighted as vital in guiding the team through its first campaign.
"Their experience, leadership and technical acumen are what we need," said Dan Towriss, chief executive of GM partner TWG Global, via BBC Sport. "We're humbled by their belief in us and this project.
"There is a young pool of drivers who are exiting and very talented so it was a tough decision. But it was the leadership of these two drivers that stood out."
Perez’s arrival offers both sporting and commercial benefits. The Guadalajara native remains one of the most marketable drivers in the sport, with a vast following in Mexico and Latin America.
His presence will give Cadillac instant visibility, while his resume of six Grand Prix victories and a key role in Red Bull’s title-winning years provides the credibility of a proven race winner.
Alpine had also been linked with Perez as a possible replacement for Franco Colapinto, but Cadillac’s long-term project and the chance to lead a new entry proved decisive.
Questions remain about his form, with concerns lingering over his final seasons at Red Bull. Yet, his pedigree and ability to deliver results in midfield machinery earlier in his career suggest he could be an asset for a developing team.
For Perez, the move represents a fresh start after a year out of F1. For Cadillac, it brings instant recognition and leadership as the team prepares for the challenge of joining the grid.
What began as speculation has now been confirmed. Perez will be back in Formula 1, ensuring Cadillac’s 2026 debut will command widespread attention.
