McLaren is back in the hunt for the F1 world championship after over a decade. Lando Norris ‘ fight against Max Verstappen seems to be coming to an inevitable end. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown pointed out that Verstappen wasn’t the biggest problem for the Woking-based squad.
The British team currently leads the Constructors’ standings and look set for a title victory. Brown highlighted that he does want to take home at least one championship for the team. The 53-year-old claimed that Ferrari still looks strong.
Of course, I want to win at least one of the two titles. But the constructors’ title will also be tough. Ferrari looks very strong.
Zak Brown told Auto-Motor-und-Sport
Scuderia Ferrari is only 36 points behind McLaren in the championship. Subsequently, Zak Brown admitted that the Italian team was a bigger headache than Max Verstappen. Though, Brown made it clear that he could not write-off Verstappen and Red Bull either.
They give me more headaches than Red Bull. Nevertheless, you must not write them off. Red Bull is an incredibly strong team.
Zak Brown noted
The 53-year-old made it clear that if Norris lost the title, it would be due to Max Verstappen’s incredible start to the season. The three-time world champion had won seven of the first ten races. Zak Brown insisted that Lando Norris‘ performance in Silverstone or Monza were not the reason for a potential title defeat to Verstappen.
If we lose it [Drivers’ title], then it happened at the beginning and not in Silverstone or Monza.
Zak Brown stated
McLaren will be focusing solely on the Constructors’ title in the last three races. Lando Norris would understand that he has no realistic shot at the championship. As such, it remains to be seen if Norris will be a team play to help the Woking-based squad.
