It felt like the college baseball season just started, but unfortunately, the regular season is already in the books. Some schools have secured postseason spots, but for others, the Big 12 tournament will be an opportunity to make a statement for the selection committee.

D1Baseball recently released its final field of 64 projections from the regular season, and here is where the Big 12 stands heading into conference tournament week.

Regional Hosts

TCU

The Horned Frogs are the only Big 12 school currently projected to host a regional. While they finished third in the conference, their RPI is comfortably inside the top 20, strengthening their case as a regional host. Currently ranked 15th nationally, they aren’t guaranteed hosting duties yet, but a win or two in Arlington this week could lock it up.

Who’s In

West Virginia (2-seed)

After being swept by Kansas this past weekend, West Virginia has been bumped down to a two-seed. Despite being the Big 12 regular-season champions, the Mountaineers’ RPI currently sits at 28, which weakens their argument to host a regional. West Virginia likely needs at least two wins in Arlington this week to have a realistic shot at hosting in Morgantown.

Kansas (2-seed)

Following their impressive sweep of West Virginia, it’s safe to say Kansas is comfortably in the postseason regardless of their performance this week in Arlington. The Jayhawks finished second in Big 12 play and are a postseason lock. This marks Kansas’s first regional appearance in over a decade.

Arizona (2-seed)

Arizona is a team that has played its way solidly into a two-seed. They took down Houston over the weekend and now appear safely in the tournament. Although their RPI sits in the 30s—not strong enough for a hosting bid—the Wildcats are in excellent position to secure a two-seed.

Kansas State (2-seed)

With a 17-13 conference record, Kansas State is currently projected as a borderline two-seed for the postseason. A win or two in Arlington would significantly bolster their resume, but even without that, the Wildcats seem safely in the field.

Oklahoma State (3-seed)

After sweeping Arizona State this past weekend, the Cowboys have earned a projected postseason bid. Just last week, Oklahoma State was among the “first four teams out,” but now they’re projected into the field. However, they’ll need at least one win in Arlington to solidify their spot in the tournament.

Cincinnati (3-seed)

The Bearcats may be the Big 12’s biggest surprise this season. Despite finishing eighth in the conference standings, Cincinnati boasts an RPI inside the top 35, which should be impressive enough to earn a postseason nod from the committee. Still, a strong showing this week in Arlington could go a long way toward securing their bid.

Who’s Out

Currently, no Big 12 teams are definitively on the outside looking in. However, keep a close eye on Cincinnati and Oklahoma State this week in Arlington. Both teams are squarely on the bubble, meaning their performance in the Big 12 tournament could ultimately determine their postseason fate.
