It’ll be busy on the return front next week. Yordan Alvarez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will likely be ready to get back to their respective teams. Meanwhile, in Anaheim, the Angels are dealing with more injury troubles.
The Blue Jays didn’t start Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on August 24, meaning he sat on the bench for almost all of Toronto’s series against the Marlins. However, he did pinch hit for the Jays on the 24th, going 0-1 as a replacement for Ty France.
Guerrero Jr. should be ready to go “going forward,” per manager John Schneider. That would put him on track to start when the Jays play the Twins this week in Toronto.
Astros manager Joe Espada told the media on the 24th that there’s a strong possibility that Yordan Alvarez is activated on Tuesday, when the team starts a series with the Colorado Rockies.
Should that happen, it would mark Alvarez’s first MLB action since May 2. It should be noted that Alvarez hit well with Corpus Christi (AA) during his rehab assignment, as he went 5-11 (.455) with an RBI for the Hooks across three games.
The Angels placed three players on the injured list on August 24. First baseman Nolan Schanuel hit the IL with a left wrist contusion. Additionally, Carson Fulmer (elbow inflammation) and Victor Mederos (shoulder inflammation) also went on the injured list.
Both Fulmer and Mederos will get MRIs. Mederos was removed from his start on August 23 with shoulder fatigue.
Schanuel, meanwhile, has been nursing a wrist injury for several weeks and jammed it on August 23, prompting the IL stint.
The Braves placed reliever Aaron Bummer on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation.
Rockies pitcher Dugan Darnell (hip inflammation) was shifted to the 60-day IL.
John King (Cardinals) was activated from the injured list.
