2025 Injury Report: Updates on Eovaldi, Rodriguez, Vesia

Nathan Eovaldi was one of baseball’s best pitchers this season, despite missing time with an elbow injury. Unfortunately for the Rangers, Eovaldi won’t have the chance to compete for an ERA title. It’s one of several injury-related notes for August 26.

Eovaldi likely done for 2025

The Rangers will be without Nathan Eovaldi for the rest of the season, most likely. Texas announced that he’s dealing with a right rotator cuff strain.

It’s the second notable loss for Texas over the last week. Marcus Semien‘s season is likely over thanks to a foot fracture.

Had Eovaldi thrown enough innings, the Rangers righty would be the MLB leader in ERA (1.73). The 35-year-old missed nearly a month this year with elbow inflammation.

Rodriguez on IL

Giants closer Randy Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day IL with a right elbow strain, retroactive to August 23.

With Rodriguez out, Bob Melvin stated that Ryan Walker would assume the closer’s position.

Dodgers lose another reliever

The Dodgers got back relievers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates, both of whom were on the IL, recently. However, Los Angeles will have to navigate another loss now.

Left-handed reliever Alex Vesia was placed on the IL with a right oblique strain. It’s retroactive to August 23.

Rehab assignments

Pablo Lopez struck out five over four innings (68 pitches) with St. Paul (AAA) on August 26. Lopez topped out at 95 MPH during the outing.

Astros pitcher Luis Garcia struck out five over six innings (75 pitches) for Sugar Land (AAA). Garcia maxed out at 94 MPH.

Guardians pitcher John Means gave up four runs over three innings (61 pitches) for Columbus. Means struck out two and surrendered three home runs.

Other injury news

Jordan Romano was placed on the 15-day IL with right middle finger inflammation.

Astros reliever John Rooney was placed on the IL with left elbow inflammation.

Red Sox pitcher Richard Fitts landed on the injured list with right arm neuritis.

Fernando Cruz (Yankees), Oneil Cruz (Pirates), Yordan Alvarez (Astros), and Kyle Bradish (Orioles) were activated off the injured list.
