The 2025 NFL Draft is underway, and the excitement is just beginning.
The Chicago Bears have selected Colston Loveland, tight end from Michigan, with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft. With almost every scout and media personality believing that Tyler Warren would be the first tight end off the board, this is one of the more shocking selections thus far.
Many thought the Bears would select a playmaker at this spot, or even trade back if Ashton Jeanty or Warren weren’t available. Loveland must’ve been on GM Ryan Poles’ radar during most of this process, so credit to him for keeping it quiet.
While this selection is shocking, Loveland was a very productive player in a run-heavy offense at Michigan. In his Junior season, Loveland caught 56 passes for 582 yards and racked up 5 touchdowns. His measurements are very solid, listing 6 foot-6 at 248 pounds, with 32 3/4″ arms and 10″ hands.
Loveland is also a proven winner, as he was a part of the 2024 National Championship team in Ann Arbor. He’s also a very good run blocker, probably better than Warren in that regard, so it’s understandable if the Bears prioritized that.
As a pass catcher, Loveland is decently fast and looks to be a great route-runner. Lining him up with Cole Kmet could be scary for NFC North defenses.
The Michigan Wolverines have produced legit NFL talent for decades, and Loveland seems like a tough kid who could fit perfectly in this Ben Johnson offense. With Cole Kmet as TE1, it will be interesting to see how Johnson approaches this duel-tight end threat.
Hopefully, Loveland can take some pressure off Caleb Williams as well. He’s solid in pass protection, but as a vertical threat next to Kmet, he could take this offense to a new level.
On social media, many Chicago Bears fans across the platform X shared many different opinions regarding the pick.
I had Colston Loveland as my number 1 overall prospect in this draft.

Colston Loveland wasn’t a name I expected but I 100% trust Ben Johnson to unlock Loveland’s potential. I like what I see

Should have taken Warren

I'm just dumbfounded the Bears took Colston Loveland over him.
If I'm Cole Kmet, I'm demanding a trade out.
